Marcos Lopes

Great to hear he's already standing out. He's 18, only ever played reserve football and he's in European football and shining already. Incredibly good sign. If he doesn't make it into our first team squad we've probably failed him. He's too good and has clear potential to be a star. He could easily be doing what nasri should be doing in our team in a year or so - running at people, driving at defences etc

If he does end up as a better player than Nasri, besides doing those things, the big difference, which he already wins by a country mile, is that he can, & will, have a shot, & he seriously connects with the ball. That's something he has over Silva too, although he's not the same kind of player.

Yeah definitely - he's got a rocket of a shot. I seriously think the ability of a player to simply just 'have a go' is undervalued. As a defender when you know a player who is on the ball is capable of crashing one in from 20 odd yards then you're naturally gonna close him down quicker/double up on him, which in turns creates space for others and general anxiety from the defending team. It can also just end up in the back of the net too and being that one moment of inspiration needed to break down a stoic defence. It's the one thing that both Nasri and Silva could do more of. You just know that they're gonna probably play one more pass instead.

The one thing that bugs me about Nasri is that he thinks he's a Silva kind of player, which he isn't. Silva's all triangles and conducting play, whereas Nasri at his very best is on the receiving end of 1-2s and driving at defences and scoring goals. He thinks he's Silva, but he isn't. Lopes would, potentially, offer something different. You don't want Silva playing a pass to another Silva. You want Silva playing a pass to someone who's gonna offer a killer instinct.

He's exactly the sort of player we need, he has that directness that Nasri is unwilling to do and that Silva is not particularly capable of doing. He has a real chance of being a big part of the squad next year, as we need someone who does what he does, it's just up to him to prove he's the man for the job. It would be a huge bonus to us if he is capable of adding that direct running and long range shooting to the team, but Lille might have to start rolling the ball along the ground a bit more if he's going to prove he's that player.

Very nice take by Lopes - got something started that might have played out if Ryan Mendes was not so terrible.

I have missed the last two Lille matches but see that they still cannot put two passes together.

This Frey Lille picked up looks pretty useful. Still has no idea where his teammates will be, but should add something for this lot as he beds in.

Oooh! Another nice piece of work in buildup by Lopes.

Lopes quiet for the first 20 but coming on nicely now.

Montpellier have clearly done there scouting. They are just standing off Mendes and encouraging Lille to pass him the ball, so he can promptly lose it. Very clever.
