Fantastic news.
Amazing how incompetently that was handled.
Presented with an absolute open goal, a chance to do something really popular with great PR for minimal cost, and the government manages to reject it before bowing to minor public pressure <24 hours later, robbing themselves of all goodwill they could have accrued in the process.
Great stuff. Well done to Rashford and everyone who put pressure on the government.
If that is all they are getting then it is a bigger problem and perhaps Social Services should be stepping in. The current generation seem to take no responsibility for anything and when it goes to shit they demand the government do something. Everything about todays generation is about somebody else doing something and not about them taking responsibility.
Are you seriously saying that a child only has one decent meal a day and that is his school meal ? If you are, the problem is far bigger than the government simply providing that meal and serious questions need to be asked of our society.
I don't care if someone else wrote it for him, it's the opinion that matters and if he's motivated enough to get his ideas across to Parliament then good luck to him.
Young people should always be agitating to change things for the better, sometimes I think the current generation are too passive and conformist so it's good to see people like Rashford and Sterling speaking out on difficult issues.
I think he is genuine. I agree that kids should be fed at school with a balanced diet. In Salford day centre for the elderly do lunches which ensure the old people get the sustenance of a proper meal plus company for a part of their day and the same should apply to kids But he and United have benefited greatly from the publicity. When a BBC2 presenter asks 'can the government afford to be at loggerheads with such a famous footballer' l can only think FFS.Do you have any reason at all to question Rashford's intentions though?
I'm glad we at least agree on the substance on what he's trying to achieve.
You'd have thought the government would've learnt their lesson after the u-turn on NHS surcharges for immigrant staff.
Boris wants to be loved. This U turn is an easy win.
Now will he listen to Raz on racism...
I wonder if a defeat was on the cards. This had all the hall marks of Maggie the milk snatcher. Any back bench MP representing anything but the most affluent of voters would have been well advised to vote against this.
Well done to all who applied the pressure.
Spot on there. The ministers had repeatedly rejected it going back to around Easter time, and Labour were forcing this vote through. Typical U turn through shame Tory tactics, their lemmings will lap it up though. And well done to Rashford too, unbelievable what’s he’s got up and actually done there. I never thought I’d ever say this but from reading a lot of comments and stuff over the last day or so, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a round of applause the next time he comes to our place. Class is class, no matter what shirt they wear.
