Did you know Fiorentina were in for him? I didn't until Raph Honigstein tweeted it about half hour ago and Jan Aage Fjortoft did the same. Fjortoft said us and Napoli wanted him, but that he wants to play for Fiorentina. So it seems we were in for him, if you want to believe Fjortoft, but the lad wanted to play in Florence. Pretty straight forward.

According to a "reliable" journalist on Twitter, City and Napoli both went for Gomez but he chose Fiorentina.

Likely because he wanted to be the undisputed main man and number one player in the team which he will only at Fiorentina.

It's not missing out if he didn't want to come. Missing out would be not paying him/his club the right money and someone coming in and doing just that. It sounds like it was a personal choice, and good luck to him. Florence is, by all accounts, a beautiful part of the world.
