Did you know Fiorentina were in for him? I didn't until Raph Honigstein tweeted it about half hour ago and Jan Aage Fjortoft did the same. Fjortoft said us and Napoli wanted him, but that he wants to play for Fiorentina. So it seems we were in for him, if you want to believe Fjortoft, but the lad wanted to play in Florence. Pretty straight forward.

just seems a shame to miss out on such a talented goal scorer who's so cheap and would add 20-30 goals a season.
It's not missing out if he didn't want to come. Missing out would be not paying him/his club the right money and someone coming in and doing just that. It sounds like it was a personal choice, and good luck to him. Florence is, by all accounts, a beautiful part of the world.

After catching up somewhat on gomez seems he wanted to be top dog where ever he went so would have no chance here..

It's fair enough, too. What is he, early 30's? Probably got 2-3 seasons of high-level footie in him, so may as well spend it being first choice.

That I didn't know. Seems to have been around forever. Hmm, it is a surprising choice then, unless it's for personal reasons in regards to his family or whatever. Fiorentina are a big club though.
Can't believe he's only 27!

IMO Gomez's distinct lack of mobility/agility was always going to be problematic in the PL. Think he'll do really well in Italy. Plus there seems to be a story in Germany that he rejected Napoli due to their wanting a % of his image rights. The fee to Fiorentina may be less, but maybe the image rights situation made it the most attractive proposal he got. Either way would rather have had Negredo than him so on that basis no probs for me us not being in for him.

He would cost only 16m to Fiorentina+ 4m bonus and all this in €.

We will pay 20m+ for Negredo in pounds...

Has moved to Fiorentina for £13.8m. That's so cheap for one of the best natural goal scorers on the continent.

i haven't really been following Gomez but know he didnt get in the first 11 much last season so why have Bayern let him go?

Because he does not really go with the style Bayern wants to play since four years (they adapted it for him in the second and third year as they did not have no better forward in formed that matched) and with his class he simply wants to play as number one in a system that matches. If he stays fit he will be top scorer in Italy the next year - I might go and put money on that. He is a goal machine when you set him in right.

Guardiola has four other options and he might prefer some over Gomez. Mandzukic if you need a hard working standard striker, Pizarro is the one with great technic or Müller and/or Götze.

Why is the transfer sum so low? Gomez from the beginning only wanted to transfer to Spain or Italy - after the first offers it was clear that he only wants to transfer to Florence - and Florence does not have so much money. Actually it is told that he transfers for 16 m EUR + an additional 1 million EUR each of the following four years. The additional sum could be success related.
