Sorry but dont you know some expected us to win the Premiership,UEFA Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and probably the fair play league in his first season ;)

I expected us to finish above Fulham who finished 19 points behind us last season. You can moan about expectations but the truth is that we have underachieved this season by any reasonable measure. We will finish with less points than less season. Is it your expectation to spend £100 million and do worse than last season?

Lets just pick a team who have overachieved to make our point shall we!

I could have chosen West Ham or Spurs, who both finished below us last season, had horrendous starts, changed managers, spent less than us and still look likely to finish above us. So much for progress under Hughes. Wigan have made good ground on us as well. In fact we're only five points above Stoke! I hardly needed to be selective to show that we have grossly underachieved under Hughes. The man is a joke.

Disregarding everything else, I can't take any more derbies where Hughes sends out a team lacking in any passion or fight as has happened twice this season. It simply isn't good enough, I can cope with defeat to that lot if we've shown some desire and battled but I can't take us just capitulating so meekly.

......Are ONE SEASON into a complete rebuilding programme. The manager is only TEN MONTHS into the job and has only had the benefit of a few days of the summer and one complete January transfer window to improve a team that had won only a handful of games in the previous six months. If we were to finish 8th he will have done as good as any manager we have had while in the premier league and a 7th place would make him our most successful. It has been said many times on this forum that patience is the key and the most successful clubs have been the most patient with their manager in troubled times. We as a team are light years behind the likes of United, Chelsea and Arsenal in terms of experience at the highest level but we are closing that gap and with the addition of 3 or 4 quality players in the summer we will get even closer. I would think that we will be ready to challenge the "big four" by 2010/11. All I would say to the doubters is it will come, be patient and enjoy the ride!

I think it may be 3-5 years before the top four can be reached! Arsenal have got to the Champions Lg semi-final and will finish 4th this season and everyones saying how much of a failure it has been so can see a few changes there this summer! In fact, even though we will get a lot stronger, so will the top 4 because they have the pulling power to get the players moreso than we do!

But i agree with you, patience is a good virtue and is what everyone should have because im nored of continual change year after year!

said the same and got abuse for it.

look at the bright side though, only 2 games left with him in charge.

By some people shortsightedness on here.

We stick with Hughes and success will ultimately come.

If that's the case, then surely sticking with the same group of players, if the argument appears to be one of consistency, will us the league in the next two years?

Bullshit, they won't.

Quality counts, both on and off the field!

Don't grant excuses for a piss poor manager, when by the same token we all know we have players who are also not good enough.

It's the reason he IS being sacked.

By this logic Sven deserved the sack then I guess?? Answer has to be yes. We got into Europe via the back door this year we where always likely to move sideways with all the changes at the club Hughes had money for one day at the end of the first transfer window and got Robinho during Jan we sign some good players who again improved the squad. We have looked much better since they settled in. As a for instance what if city did get Mourinho and we where in exactly the same position? I don't think we would be seeing Jose out threads week in week out, but that is more than likely to happen if we do change. We are not like chelsea where we where already in the top 4 when the money came and you simply don't go from bottom half (2 seasons ago) into the top 6 in 2 seasons next season is the key and I have seen enough to make me think Hughes will do it.

I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen at the end of the season as regards to Hughes. But it does seem an awful lot of money is going to be spent. Highly likely we will be spending more money than Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool combined.

Which means we are, lack of trophies notwithstanding, competing with the elite of European football. Both for players and more importantly managers.

The one question that needs asking is this. When Ramos leaves Madrid, when Hiddink leaves Chelsea, when Ancelotti leaved Milan will these elite clubs be knocking at Mark Hughes door?

I suspect not. So why the hell should he be managing City, just because he is here already?

Can our owners gamble on him not being another Steve Bruce?

Well you shouldn't get abuse for it, the difference between this season's derbies and last are too glaringly obvious - and I wouldn't want Sven back either but at least he knew how to prepare a team for a derby and win the tactical battle with Ferguson.

I'm not bothered if Hughes stays or if he goes to be honest but not being able to get a side going for a derby game is unforgiveable.
We were pathetic today & Utd hardly had to break sweat to beat us easily.

He seems pretty happy with that gutless performance, the second one under his lacklustre tenure.

At least he was consistent with the amount of times he threw "obviously" into an interview - 10 in the space of 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Meh...

Absolutely.
