Martin Demichelis (continued)

Re: Martin Demichelis

Shown his experience by stepping out and performing professionally despite criticism. He is better on the ball than our other options at centre half and that is as important as his defensive capabilities for Pellegrini. Lescott is suited to a Chelsea style deep defensive system but that isn't the way we want to play and to get the best out of our attacking players we needed someone like Demichelis to come in. Kompany has made some high profile mistakes this season, so has Clichy, and so has Hart - Demichelis has deserved criticism for some of his performances but he now deserves praise for how he has responded to that. He has been a leader on the pitch defensively in the absence of Kompany and the two of them look to be more balanced when playing together now. Will be a crucial part of our title run in - if he can read the game on the front foot as well as he did v Barca, at the likes of Anfield then we will be in a great position to counter attack and get something from that game.

Re: Martin Demichelis

I think his last 4 performances (since Hull) and how he came over on that programme last night have caused his stock to rise a lot amongst city fans.

Forza Martin

Re: Martin Demichelis

According to Opta Stats, Martin Demichelis was the 14th best player in Europe in March. Got to say his performances have improved recently, but still think we need to invest in another center back to partner Vinny

Linked with Napoli today according to the gossip column on the OS.

Came across very well on that programme and think the perception is changing. Still not the answer and I think we will spend big, but he is definitely starting to acclimatize despite a lot of critics (me included)

Is he starting to grow on anyone? He is on me.

No,because ive rated him from the off.
Same here. Clearly a very good player, always has been. Made some mistakes but no more than many of our other players (Kompany included); and even then, some of his 'mistakes' were either down to his lack of pace (which isn't a reflection someone's footballing brain or ability) or others around him cocking-up. We've gained far more from his ability to play the ball than we've lost from his occasional errors. He's just an easy scapegoat for the gutter press; ie. foreign (an Argentine, no less!) and wears a pony tail.

People dont rate him because he lacks pace,

This is about the 8th time I've said this in this thread, but no, he doesn't. For a 30+ year old, he is still pretty quick.
He's no Navas, but he is easily faster than our other CH options in Lescott, Nasty and Garcia.
