Martín Demichelis has been the butt of criticism at City this season, but if Liverpool possessed a player of the Argentine’s defensive discipline and nous, Brendan Rodgers’ team may now be in pole position for the title. Demichelis lacks pace, but he reads the game better than anybody else in the City back four and his ability on the ball goes unnoticed. With Vincent Kompany often breaking forward with the ball, Demichelis is happy to sit back and snuff out any danger before it emerges. As proved at Crystal Palace, Liverpool lack that kind of player and Demichelis has turned out to be a bargain buy for City.
Great point

Lovebitesandeveryfing said:It does raise the question, doesn't it? Do we in fact have a centre back problem, as we said we did for a large part of the first half of the season. Because Demichelis was simply impeccable tonight. He's looked so comfortable for the last couple of months, in fact the truth is he has been covering for Vinny's mistakes at times.
Can Nastasic get back in the team next season?

He was unfairly criticised when he made the occasional mistake but they were few and far between. Vinny has made more mistakes this season and probably last too but he has an established press image so the cheap papers back away from criticism. MDM was new, has long hair, took an English players spot and used guile rather than pace which made him an easy target both in the press and on here.
I think you are spot on and I will go as far to say we don't need to buy this summer. Many have forgot some past greats who have had poor first seasons. Signing players can disrupt the player and team until their fitness and knowlage of playing stile is upto scratch. A player that not only improves but improves because he has developed his ability to suit a teams style is priceless. Win the double Sunday and that won't be half bad for a team who are tweaking the rough edges. What will they be like after a break then pre season. Even more settled I think.blueinsa said:Like the vast majority of players in a new team, league and country, he just needed a bit of time.
Garcia the exact same. Unfortunately some fans will never learn.
There were a few terrible games in which he was shit. Plus he took Nastasic's spot, not an English player's.Don Karleone said:Gelsons Dad said:He was never shit for us.

I heard that too ;)
Thing is, he was right. Do you notice that Vinny gives the ball to him most of the time to play out or distribute? He was everywhere last night, and you know what else I've noticed, Vinny isn't having to make so many last ditch tackles/blocks covering for his defence anymore, and they are starting to look like a proper partnership now.
Lots of people eating lots of words.....
