He was shocking today, even at Savic's worst he would have been better than MD was today.

I'm guessing you didn't go to the League Cup Semi second leg at Anfield a couple of years ago?

Went to the home game and watched the second leg and at least with nervous Savic you could say he's young he'll learn but Demi was rank rotten today, I like the bloke but saying it how I seen it.

He was poor in the first half, I don't like him at centre back myself but he's better than Savic. But anyway, I was just being pedantic.

The system Pellegrini is using doesn't really suit him he was fine for Malaga playing deep.
If Porto don't reduce that ridiculous price set on Mangala, I think Toby Alderweireld could be a shrewd buy. He's good on the ball used to our possession style of play.
The guy Atletico bought to replace Demichelis for just less that £2m more than we paid them for him [Demichelis]?
Yep him he wants to leave "I miss Ajax, their style of play, my ex-teammates...At Atleti, I can't be happy if I'm not playing. The team is doing well and I continue to fight for my place, but I don't think it's my fault."

Agree .....I think Nastasic playing regular with Kompany has to be the way forward if we're not buying a top CB, he can only keep improving..... The fact that Pellers seems to rate Demichelis so highly worries me. I have no problem him playing in centre mid to give Yaya or Fernandihno a rest in less important games, he looks steady there and is decent on the ball but as a centre back defensively he's slow and rash, at 32 there's little improvement coming so I dont see the point, he's costing us numbers in the goals conceded column !!!!

Complete and utter liability at CB - if we play him there in big games it could really cost us but I fear Pellers sees him as Vinnies partner in big games, as he seems to have a lot of trust in him - He was steady in holding mid in 2nd half there were a few sloppy passes that gave Watford a sniff but mostly his passing was good ........ lets not forget though we were playing Watford!!!!

I liked him a lot in midfield, he made a couple of passes that didn't work out but he was often trying passes a bit more difficult than the Garcia 5 yard sideways/backwards stuff. Also his almost compulsive desire to win the ball early which can be fatal when he's in the back four becomes a really positive trait in midfield imo.

Good points - he's good cover at CM....

Just switches off mentally too many times in games for my liking and far too rash... I would rate Nasti>Lescott>Demi, but clearly Pellers really wants him in there. I just don't understand it though - how many poor games can you have before being dropped from the side.
Can't see us getting anyone in Jan, so we're stuck with him as Kompany's sidekick until the summer.

Baffled by some of these comments - I thought he was great in the 2nd half. Dominant in the air and good awareness of his colleagues' positioning. Most of the play in CM seemed to go through him.
#
which is why we need a centre half.

He performs the defensive midfield role better than the centre back one,i prefer him much more than Garcia as he has a greater awareness and a better positional sense along with, even at 33,superior agility/mobility.

We need a centre half.

Seriously lacks pace and dives in A LOT, he's good at reading the game and marking but we can not rely on him. A CB ideally needs to be signed before Feb.

Are there any decent CB's available though? No team wants to lose their best CB midway through the season no matter what money they are offered. And Pellegrini while getting a lot right in his first season seems blind to the fact that Demichelis is a liability so I doubt he's even in for a CB.

I feel the same mate, I just hope Nastastic can get a run and get back to the level he was at last season!

Ditto, had a great second half
So you're both questioning how people thought he was poor in defence while both claiming he played better in midfield?

We all know we need a centre-half, MP knows we need a centre-half, but the player has to be available. if there's no-one available that fits the bill there's not a lot we can do. I hope some people are not beginning to think you can solve every football problem just by chucking money at it.

He's a pellegrini man. Has followed him for a while. I've grown to love Manuel over the last few months, but he's blinded when it comes to Martin. He goes to ground to often, and for me he is a better dcm than ch. even though most of his career has been spent as a ch

-- Sun Jan 26, 2014 2:07 am --

He's a pellegrini man. Dont agree, he was average at best, last 15 mins of the game yaya had to come and collect the ball from our defenders really deep to give us any sort of drive, MD rarely made a telling forward pass and was shocking in the first half.
Cant understand why your baffled by the comments, people can see he's not good enough but MP seems to play him at every opportunity , we need better, not good enough for where we are and where we hope to be.

He was awful at CH yesterday. Not for the first time.

Second half he was better in DM than he has been in most of his games at CH for us but even saying that he was just standing still a lot and not offering himself for a pass all the time like you need to in midfield. He was reading the game better in midfield than he usually does at CH (bizarre!) and got some good interceptions and tackles in and when he did have the ball he passed it well.

Weird player for me. Not my cup of tea at CH at all.
