Martin Samuel on Jose/FFP

did anybody read Ian Holloways column in yesterdays Sunday Mirror? The headlines read:

'City's Spending is obsene, but i'd take Sheikh Mansour over Glazer as an owner.'

Basically he said that the current FFP rules are flawed because one manchester club (City) can fail the test despite being debt free, while United pass with flying colours despite being £389 million in the red.

another Reporter (Miguel Delaney) said ....
that back in 1907 United had a massive injection of cash when they won their first trophy that is the relative equivalent of City today

"mute point"?

What the fuck is a mute point? I've heard of a moot point but never heard of a mute point - probably because it's fucking mute.

Sorry, it's one of those pedantry things (I feel the same way when people uses "banded" instead of "bandied").

Carry on.

I posted the story on facebook. Take a look at the gem of a reply from a rag (who I should say is usually one of the more clued up ones). Words fail and just go to show the depth of brain washing they are under:

I've done so well to refrain for so long but the SECOND you congratulate Martin Samuel for a piece of journalism is the second i need to ask did you actually read the article, or did you just look at the pictures??

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt in that you don't get to read the rags this side of the pond often but Martin Samuel is what we would call a 'gutter journalist'. A typical article of his consists of him vomiting his meager thoughts onto a keyboard and calling it journalism. Football journalists these days are pretty poor in general but he is absolute farce. I've honestly read some of his stuff and questioned was it some sort of joke at the end - utter drivel.

This article is a good point in case, and this isn't me being a biased fan. I couldn't care less about FFP and there's no way City will be kicked out of the champions league so mute point.

There's too much garbage in the article to point out everything but just a few things. Firstly, it's all conjecture written as fact. Secondly, the whole thing has stemmed from a few words from Mourinho at his press conference on the subject and all of a sudden all of sudden all the top clubs are collaborating to get kicked out of Europe - this would be one of the points where i would question whether it was meant to be a joke.

"City had to smash their way in or risk exclusion. This was Platini’s doing, not City’s choice"...City had to spend £600m on players in the last five years...because of Platini...LOL - that should cover that.

"Image and intellectual property rights have been sold to an unnamed party for close to £50m" It was sold to a sister company of the Sheiks (adding this fact to the article would naturally debunk his whole point of view), so in reality they still own the rights but it makes the accounts of City look a lot better than they actually are, just like the inflated sponsorship deal with Etihad. This is actually what everyone has a problem with. Their 'clever' accounting.

Oh dear. Obviously hysterical. Someone should slap him until he snaps out of it.
