Martin Samuel: The plot to shackle City & Chelsea

Brilliant journalism and Samuel once again cuts straight to the chase.

Gill, in particular, needs bringing to heel and would like to see City put a motion forward about his vested interests when it comes to driving proposals.
Totally agree, that might be the way forward here.

There really does seem to be a conflict of interests with his desire to have UEFA intervention in the Premier League, coupled with his own self interests.

If I may...

Why not put forward some constructive counter-proposals. For example:

1. Return to sharing of gate money.
2. Maximum ticket prices (including 'hospitaliity') and at least 20% of the ground to be sold as 'affordable' tickets. (That is no more than £25).
3. Limit on amount of debt a club can have.

I'm sure the clever guys can think of some more.

I think that's an excellent idea. None of the suggestions will ever go through.

But it will expose those that are trying to give out the impression that they are doing this in the interests of football for the hypocrites that they are.

Arsenal actually remind of fred flinstone in the opening sequence of the cartoon. Fred kicks off and tries to throw the pet out of the house but it ends up with him being thrown out of the house and the door slammed behind him instead

can anyone tell me why a team like wigan would vote for this????
they would always be fav to finish bottom eventually they would be relegated and would near enough find it impossible to return.

because no one would ever dream of buying them and they would never feel fan pressure to splash the cash

I think for "guaranteed" short-term income. At the moment the PL is the most lucrative in the world. When the new deal comes in it will be even better. Chairmen who have given up hope of ever selling their clubs to make a profit can sit tight and pocket the proceeds themselves whilst simultaneously telling the fans that they'd like to buy more players but, unfortunately, are prevented from doing so by the new rules.

There is so much money washing around that even the shareholders of clubs like Wigan will be able to pocket a few million a year if costs are held down. At least until Sky realises that the product is dead.

But what would happen is they'd have the least to spend, which would eventually lead to relegation, while the likes of Leeds, Forest etc.. with a larger fan base would then end up being promoted and more than likely survive at the expense of the other smaller clubs like Norwich Reading etc... and there would be no way back for Wigan.

Them backing this makes no sense whatsoever.

are they really under pressure to splash the cash????
the current rules surely give wigan a better chance of staying in the prem rather the the cock and bull fair play rules
