Mass starvation in Afghanistan

Al Qaeda weren’t formed till 1988 and weren’t involved in the fight against Russia. That was the Afghan Mujahideen which at one time had Bin Laden as a member.

Why do you bother getting involved in discussions where you clearly have no clue what you’re talking about and you make shit up to justify your anti-American stance on just about everything.

7 words for you- Fuck off, clown.

The Mujahideen and Al Qaeda were basically one and the same thing. They’ve subsequently rebranded themselves again. I guess American support for Al Qaeda in Syria was a difficult sell. The US has never had issue funding and supporting terrorists and extremist groups where their interests align.

You'll never get the US anal-ists on here admitting it.

They really weren’t.

The Afghan mujahideen were an alliance of a number of groups that operated almost exclusively in Afghanistan in opposition to the Soviets who invaded in 1980.

The Al Quaeda leadership came from just one of those groups and set up an international terrorist organisation.

Just because Bin Laden was a Mujahideen volunteer from another country doesn’t make the Mujahideen and Al Qaeda in any way the same thing.

Many of the Mujahideen groups became part of the Northern Alliance that opposed the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

Even after all this time, quite amazing that some still don’t understand these things. Interesting that we’ve just had a World Cup and no mention of the Taliban. Human rights are the big issue but there’s very much more to it.

It wasn’t just Bin Laden and it wasn’t just the leadership, it was virtually the entirety of Al Qaeda. Now whilst it is true that the mujahideen was more broad, comprising even Shia groups, Al Qaeda was still essentially formed from a large subset of the mujahideen. The Northern Alliance was comprised mostly of Tajiks and Shia groups, which gained the support of Iran.

Bin Laden and the AQ leadership came from one group of foreign volunteers out of about a dozen that formed the Mujahideen. Saying that AQ and the Mujahideen are the same thing is simply wrong and the question has only arisen due to the total ignorance of a buffoon that regularly posts shite and can never admit he’s wrong. It’s also not true to say that virtually the entirety of AQ are ex-Mujahideen. They have members from extremist elements from practically every country in the world with a sizeable Muslim community.
