They were formed in 1994 during the Afghan Civil War that followed the Soviet retreat.

Sorry you're quite right and it's been a long day as I've been up since 4am yesterday!, Yeah, al-Qa'ida were trained against the Russians and the Taliban were propped up by the US. Either way, it makes little difference as the US has, basically, stuck its nose into affairs it didn't need to!

Historical conflicts in the ME have nothing to do with '9/11', but for some reason you think it's directly connected?! The US are not anybody's peacekeepers, but you crack on!!

If you're going on about 'will the Taliban feed its people properly', then maybe the US should stop sanctioning the gov, knowing that that they'll keep some of that aid for themselves in doing so. What, you'd rather not in case the people starve? What's the difference at this point?
