Match Ball and Peter Fletcher allegedly (for legal reasons)

I think unless Joe himself posts on here, we will have various bits of information/misinformation and never the twain shall meet and we won't know the full truth.

That said, it may well be that the club look into the circumstances of how this matter was handled and if PF is seen to have made mistakes in his handling of it, then he might have some words of advice from the board about handling it better next time.

I think it's naive to suggest that he'll get the boot even if he is found ultimately responsible for this episode going pear shaped. The fact is, the role of stadium/security manager is a massive role and doesn't just involve banning the odd person for smoking (or not as the case may be). I'm not defending the bloke, but to find someone else to do that role with experience of managing a 45,000 plus capacity stadium, along with thousands of stewards and organising the stewarding and policing of the games, as well as other events, would be fairly difficult. You could argue that only 3 or 4 other people in the country were so qualified, all of whom would be very attached to their own clubs. I'm sure fans of other clubs who feel hard done by when kicked out for no reason (according to them) or for the wrong reason feel the same way about their stadium manager too.

We also have the scenario on here where people post whilst still angry at getting kicked out and we only have their side of it so it's difficult to have an objective view. Even then, those complaints are a tiny percentage of the vast majority of the 47,000 who generally have no hassle from stewards, cops or anyone else for that matter. It also usually seems to stem from the same place, ie those sections which sandwich the away support.

So for those clamouring for PF's demise, I think you'll be waiting a long time. And sometimes it's better the devil you know...

Seriously? You think there may only be 3 or 4 people in the country qualified to PF's job? Really?

The only part of his post that could be wrong, but I suppose you could argue either way

Apart from that he is spot on with the what he has said

Yeah so apart from the entire essence of his post being arguable - he is absolutely bang on.

One of the things to remember is that we only seem to see the angry postings about Mr Fletcher on here. As I have said many times I have had dealings with him, nothing to do with being banned or tickets or anything like that granted but I have always found him to be pleasant and helpful.

We have to keep a sense of perspective about the man. He is, after all, doing his job. Maybe for every complaint that the club gets there are just as many praising him.

I know he is a hate figure on here for various reasons but I've had professional dealings with PF, I have certainly always found him very professional, a pleasure to deal with and an excellent representative of our club.

He has a very demanding role far in excess of "just" being Safety Officer, he is responsible for all security in relation to the club and the players including their families, not just at home but when abroad and many other numerous duties.

He is 100% a City fan too.

I too have sympathy for Peter Fletcher. A few years ago my Aunt was punched by a United fan in the East Stand (another woman) the woman was drunk and with her husband a City fan, it was a derby that City won. The stewards were called and names, addresses and phone calls exchanged in order to make my Aunt's complaint official. The upshot, Mr Fletcher rang my aunt to say the City supporting husband had his and 2 other tickets taken off them for 4 home games and warned about taking his tickets off him if there was ever any trouble again. Mr Fletcher then gave my aunt his personal mobile number, email address and landline number in case she had any problems ever again. She said at the start of the next season he rang her again to check she was OK with where she was sitting and would she like the offending family to be moved. She said it was OK but he said she must contact him if ever she had any problems again.
