Match Discussion - Chelsea (A) - 05/09/25 - WSL

Looked like she said “I think I’ve broke my arm “ to the physio,
Yeah I just watched it back and I thought she said “I’ve broken my arm”

Didn’t look great. It’s quite telling when the cameras never cut back to them when they’re on the ground. Really hope she’s okay

Going to be a Donnie downer. Feeling a bit meh after that. Simply not good enough, couldnt beat a 3/4 fit Chelsea. Poor finishing and worse defending. Its going to be a long season of disappointment. We simply haven't got a good enough team or squad to beat the best sides. Also rans I'm afraid, fighting for 4th again.
Hope young Lilly is OK.

Liked us going forward, but the defense needs some work... I didn't like the shape of it and they all were poor
Lohmann was a nice surprise

17 shots for 8 against. Need to be much more clinical. Hope the young girl Murphy is alright, I could lip-read her saying I think I've broke my arm.

Shame about the result but I think there's enough positive signs we might be heading in the right direction. Also seems we're getting hit with injuries again which is a major concern. We know Mary is a long-term casualty but hopefully Fujino & Kerolin aren't missing for too long. Greenwood now out for 4-6 weeks by the looks of it and who knows for Murphy.

I think we'll still be okay going forward but still a bit light defensively. We ended up with more chances than Chelsea (no mean feat at their place) but not really what I'd call good chances. Need a bit more care in the final third.

First game and a new coach playing against the league’s winners, so not horrible really. We were not a disaster as we frequently were with Taylor. Our left side was poor: Greenwood and Lilly Murphy. I hope in future games Greenwood after her recovery will move back to the center of defense, and Murphy after recovery will be sent out on loan. Murphy was the weakest link and I am surprised she played all these minutes.

'Watched' it on the MDC. Seemed to be the same narrative as the men v Brighton. We are carrying on where we left off last season. Possession was nigh on fifty fifty but we had FIFTEEN shots on goal with FIVE on target and none of 'em got us the goal. We had enough chances to have won that. The reason we aren't in the CL this season was last season lack of effective firepower. It was always gonna be tough at The Bridge but these are the games where you need a share of the points. Lose to one of these top teams, and another, and yer chance of the title is gone. It'll be interesting to see how we shape next game.

Didn’t necessarily deserve to lose and I think in parts we looked more positive than we did last year. Overall, we’re against the team who went unbeaten last year and didn’t look out of place. Solid enough to build on that and improve the new system

A broken arm is potentially a better outcome than a dislocated or broken shoulder (speaking as someone who has had broken arm more than once, and also dislocated a shoulder).

Neither are ideal obviously.

Disappointing result and to a certain extent performance. The goals we conceded were shocking defensively and whilst we had a number of shots they were mostly central and straight at Hampton. We still look like a physically weak side to me, quite easily shoved off the ball and we were caught whilst holding onto the ball too long as well.
Pleased to see there was not ass much back passing and side to side tedium but we need to improve our finishing.
One game in and the injuries are already mounting, madness. Feel sorry for Murphy, she'll be out for a bit now.

Positives: the hardest fixture on paper is out the way, we matched Chelsea for long periods and created some good chances. Plenty of good signs in terns of organisation and the work rate was excellent.
Negatives: only one attacking tactic really, get it to Shaw and leave to it her. Build up play similar to the mens team, too slow and too predictable. Greenwood looked slow in the LB role, the Chelsea right winger had Alex on toast. We need more athleticism, apart from Shaw we look so lightweight, and loose the majority of 50 50s.

Rose isn't playing solely as CB, though. Think she was coming back from mid at that point, I can't remember. For me, that's a slide block all day from Greenwood if she's not competing in the foot race.

If (Carpenter?) checks her cross, that's different, cos at least the defenders are back in position to cover, so no early pass.

Just watched it back, Rose is the central defender in the back line Beaver-Jones makes a blind run behind her and the ball doesn't come so Rose allows her to run offside. BJ comes back onside on her blind side and Rose never checks her shoulder once, doesn't even realise she's there until shes in front of her and only then accelerates too late instead of sprinting back to recover position.

I don't like Greenwood at left back as a 3, she's much better as a left handed side centre half in a 4.

Not a regular watcher, so grain of salt needed, but why don't they just play 70-80 minutes.

It was similar in the euros, where they were dead on their feet and injuries abound as soon as it got past a certain time.

Not sure if it is normal for Shaw but I've seen spiceheads kick their own shadow with more accuracy.
