Match of the Day - 2016/17

Fair enough from MOTD. Can't argue with any of that really. Cleared up a few things in my mind from the game too.

Well I left fucking raging today.

Let me just say first and foremost that it's a red card. No question about it.

Bravo has to be stronger than he was for their goal. There are 2 fouls. The first one is soft but can be given. The 2nd is blatant but it's already a goal by then. As a blue I'm more concerned about Bravo and his inability to command his area.

Those were the 2 big talking points.

What I'm fucking raging about is the rest of the game. They were fucking thugs. Countless fouls going unpunished. What about the hack down of Silva? It's the general officiating during play that fucking stunk the place out. He gave them everything.

I'm fucking convinced he was on the take.

The foul on Silva was blatant and Mason chose to ignore it. He's deffo on the take along with a few others. One day - this whole corrupt facade will come crashing down

It was a red, hard to argue otherwise. Dinho needs to give his head a wobble.

And also think Bacary has been daft as well. Will be lucky to escape a retrospective ban...

We need to wise up here, a fukin lot!! It's bad enough losing key players thru injuries, but plain indiscipline is pretty inexcusable.

My thoughts exactly.

The big talking points were fine, it's every single 50 fucking 50 and their players taking turns to kick lumps out of us and then going down easily themselves.

Just think about it. If you were fixing a game you wouldn't give huge decisions all the time. You'd try and sneak the smaller ones in to give a team a footing without making it obvious.

I reckon he was getting a stiffy when he walked over to the injured Silva whilst the south stand sang you're not fit to referee.

i missed todays game and had the pleasure of the nicest cleanest defender in the world telling us our players need to sort their heads out, keown is mental and got called out by kilbane for their goal (was a goal but the ref had no right booking ppl, he should of explained it was before the push then players may have backed off)
herd the ref was as great as ever. i keep saying we should except they are shite and play around it but this is becoming a laughing stock, even last year i can't count how many people including micah richards have had a good old bite of silva left ankle.
big ban for ferna coming up is a massive blow, was reckless challenge for one of the leagues most underrated midfielders but no one will report on that they are too busy telling how great carrick is even though he cuts around with a walking stick

I don't think the officials are on the take, i.e. getting financial incentives to cheat.
I do think that the Premier League is corrupt though.
There are a lot of TV deals and a lot of cash dependent on having an exciting league competition.
Having a clear group of 4 teams isn't exciting, but having 5 or 6 is.
In the late 90s / early 00s it was all "The Big Four" which was OK for the PL.... they needed to establish a foreign audience and as long as 2 of the four included Dippers and Rags it meant a viable product.
You would go abroad into non-football countries and the posters would be four players from The Big Four... all helping to set them up as the product and the rest don't count.
The occasional upset with Everton or Spurs spoiling the party for a season could be handled and it kept the interest going but then Liddle Ciddy came along and spoiled the party and with the Dippers dropping like a stone to be followed by the post-GPC demise at the Rags and it disturbed the nice little market being fostered and nurtured.
The drop off of the Rags and the rise of the Spuds to being a credible challenger and the alarm bells ring.

The easiest way to influence results is with the officials - you don't need blatant cheating, just influential decisions, like Aguero getting the retrospective red before the derby, like Aguero and Luiz not even being called a foul, like Chopper Rojo getting yellow instead of straight red, like dubious offsides being given or ignored, etc.
Think back to the 3 "goals" Spurs got at WHL and the "handball" off Sterling's back at the Etihad.
Having refs such as Riley, Walton, Webb and co, and now continuing with Moss, Mason, Taylor and co says a lot.
Add generous scheduling of matches for certain clubs, including this holiday period, like having easier games before or after ECL games, etc.

A tap in for Sergio, nowhere near as good as Costa's similar wonder goal last week.

And Vokes didn't quite hit Bravo in the face for the goal so not a foul... Goalies wrapped in cotton wool says Gary.

But at least the BBC site has the verbatum text of the Pep "interview" so that's OK
