Match Thread - Chelsea V City (2nd leg FA Youth Cup)

The two full backs and the centre halves are absolutely abysmal. Smith hasn't impressed me either apart from the assist, a crab with no physical attributes who Chelsea have been galloping past at will all game.

Sancho and Foden marked out the game, Diaz trying but can't do it alone. Have been impressed with the keeper (Bar him getting beaten at the near post) and Nmecha.

Chelsea's size isn't normal at this level. No other team has an academy like it - and it rarely if ever bears fruit as that emphasise on size dies down as they're just early developers. It matters nowt when they get to 20 and everyone is just as big. We've got small players, but most will be totally fine size wise by the time they're 19/20, like most people. They're just young and normal for their ages.

Most men finish having growth spurts by the age of 18. Some of our lads would have to have a serious growth spurt to end up much bigger than they are now.

Don't misread what I said, I didn't say they don't pick talent, but they pick talent with physicality, we just pick talent.

One thing that stands out here more than anything for me is team ethic, they are well drilled and use both aspects well, while we rely on the individual talent.
Sounds familiar that last paragraph.

Chelsea certainly pick physicality over talent at these levels, and not many make it to the first team, whilst we pick talent over physicality, and not many of ours make it either. Maybe other clubs put more attention into getting individuals through to the first teams, and not being best at this level ?

No you literally did say they picked physicality over talent, you might not have meant that, but I can only reply to what you write not what you mean.

We don't rely on individual talent either, we prioritise the system one individuals, Chelsea concentrate on individuals and then turn them into a team.

Problem is we have a style of football now at all levels and wont change! Its either going to pay dividends in years to come or we win nowt and have wasted around 10 years.

Our first time is small with highly technical players, no difference to this team.
