Not better than Gundo Or Bernardo and has fitness issues at 29 + Chelsea asking what £30/35m on last year of contract?
Not great value for money given what we already have
Problem is we are probably losing one or both so need midfielder(s) for the lowish fee and his talent it’s not a bad deal tbh.

I hope to see him as a highly useful addition to the existing triumvirate (Gundogan, de Bruyne, Bernardo), though hopefully not as a replacement for either of them. When you spend any amount of time watching Kovacic, you soon appreciate that he is actually like a composite of the three midfielders we currently have: he has Gundogan's composure and can dictate the pace of the game; he has Bernardo's close control and that ability to keep the ball in tight positions; and he has de Bruyne's vision and ability to hit runners ahead of him. In that sense, he would be an ideal signing as you could ask him to play any of those three roles and rest and rotate players with no discernible drop off. Another of Kovacic's strengths is that he has the technical ability and nous not to need a year coming to terms with the system, and we desperately need someone that can come into the middle and lift some of the burden from their shoulders in August. Finally, the one thing that Kovacic would offer that those others don't necessarily bring is a degree of physicality, he fairly relishes a tackle, and that means he could also be used in Rodri's role or even in partnership with Phillips, should he stay. Five top players in one midfielder would be pretty good business.
