Matija Nastasić

Well if nasty turn out decent it won't be the first centre back that has improved since leaving us. Savic has done great at Fiorentina. Supposed to be a few big clubs looking at him and fee will be double what we received. And Jerome Boateng couldn't get in our team but is good enough for one of the top sides in Europe.

So perhaps Nastasic will go onto better things. I certainly don't think he had a fair crack of the whip. Not sure he never recovered from the bollocking Vinny gave him last season I think.
Perhaps the problem has never been the players. I thought both Savic and Boateng were pretty good when they were here. While I didnt care much for spending more to get Nasty, I thought he too was pretty decent. None of the 3 are " hoof the ball out" type defenders. City fans just tend to be bigger fans of guys who make crunching tackles and take no prisoners. Even if they are technically deficient. :(

Demechelis's popularity would show that's not the case.

Dude, that took 9 months to come to be. And still a sizeable sum always found an excuse or the other to exclude him from the starting lineup last year. It was either the "Its time to get Lescott some games" or the " We need Lescott in the air against this team" excuse. Even now, check the next "Hull" match thread and notice the number of lineups that has Mangala in it and Demi out. Inspite of him being the best CB for over a year now!

BP,

I just went back and counted. Page 11 right now:

There are 10 lineupa including Mangala and 6 including Demichelis. This totally in spite of the fact Demichelis has been the best City CB for a year now, In spite of the fact that Mangala just came back from injury. In spite of the fact that pre injury Mangala was consistently inconsistent, and so has Kompany.

The guy who has been the most consistent all year is put in the least! That's should tell you all you need to know about how City fans feel about him. By the way, 3 of those linups with Demichelis had Boyata on the bench. Thus, we can assume those posters thought Mangala was still injured, so he wasn't a consideration. More likely than not, more would have stuck Mangala in there.

Like I said, City fans don't like skilled defenders. This is a claim Ive made for years, and game discussion threads often back it up.

It's almost like people see Hull as a game where our defenders might have it easy, so they are looking to the future and want to give Mangala playing time with his long term partner? When the big games came around, almost everyone wanted Kompany and Demi. Suggesting people on here don't rate Demi is bizarre, given how he has become one of the untouchables, immune to criticism.

I think we all know Mangala needs game time or he isn't going to improve and until he improves, we not ready to trust him against the Barcelona's of the world....His development is a tricky one and City need to find the right balance between getting him on the field but not wanting his mistakes to cost us in the big games, while he learns and develops into the world class defender they feel he is going to be........

Again, folks can feel free to justify it with Whatever excuse soothes their conscience, the excuses have changed ever since he got here, but the result has remained the same. Finding a way to exclude him.

On a side note Mangala doesn't need time with his future partner. We don't even know if that partnership will ever be. When Mangala is good enough (I.e better than Kompany or Demi) then he can start. Or he can start when we have multiple games in 1 week for rotation. But when I see These made up excuses of why an inferior player should start ahead of a superior one, all it tells me is how little fans like him. They might give mouth service to his play, but their true intentions come out when they put out their preferred lineup.

So again, this "get some practice with his future partner" is just the new excuse. You simply never play an inferior player under any normal circumstance.

Nastatic is a better player than Managala, 30mil down the drain

If Pelli didn't like the way Nastatic played surely he could have tried coaching him better or change the style to suit the players we already had because lets be honest, the current system isn't doing much to improve our defence

Dax I put Mangala in my team not because I prefer him over Martin it's I thought Manny was more likely to play him. I was saying from the start of the summer we should have signed a cheaper cb and signed cesc. I said when we sold Savic I believed he would go now to have a solid career and I believe the same for Nastasic. These arnt bad players, savic got off to a bad start and wasn't given the chance to recover which makes the blind support and faith in mangala confuse me, I believe he has everything in his locker but lack focus and discipline at times hopefully a full pre season will relax him and settle him into the side.

Absolutely agree; Nastasic showed more class than Mangala in his first season, despite facing the same acclimatisation obstacles that everybody on here uses as an excuse for Mangala; at the time he was also 5 years younger. His confidence seemed shattered when Kompany wrongly decided to tackle then bollock him last season. He's should have been careful what he wished for, because pairing him with the equally inclined to chase the ball Mangala and Demichelis have exposed many flaws in his game that Lescott and Matija obviously covered up.

Nastasic was an asset to the club and had all the tools to be an important player for us long after Pellegrini gets the sack, and the fact we've spent close to £40m for an inadequate replacement further exposes the myth that is Pellegrini.

Both Nastasic and Rodwell showed fantastic promise in their first year with us, easily eclipsing the performances of the pants-pulled-down by Porto pair Mangala and Fernando, yet have been labelled flops because the crusty Chilean youth development antichrist wouldn't put faith in them.

At what point did Rodwell show promise? Except for the Norwich game?
