I've seen a lot of this kid, he was/Is better than Davinson Sanchez at spurs and he is looking very good considering his age. Last summer my 4 players I wanted at city were de ligt, Leon Bailey, Justin kluivert & sessigon. They are still who I think we should add with possibly Werner being groomed to takeover aguerro.

I thought he was better than Sanchez too. If nothing else a far superior footballer.

Complete waste of money if true. He won't improve us in the short term. Davinson Sanchez always looked the far superior defender. Good on the ball, but seems defensively weak. Was average at best in the Europa League final against the rags. Wouldn't class him as better than Stones.

Big plus for getting De ligt in now is he has the summer with Pep as he won’t be going World Cup, same as Laporte who don’t think France will pick.

Vinny, Stones, Otamendi all be at World Cup and Vinny likely come back injured means 3 tired centre backs come start of season. I can see why this one would be a goer. Plus don’t want to let him go somewhere else just cos we not ready this year.

wouldnt say its the last... we have 3 centre backs that can be relied upon. and if we want the option of three at the back, we need 5 imo.

I would not be surprised if City bought 5 or 6 players this window and simply loaned them out. We are in the era of stockpiling players.

He's not overpriced. He's incredibly intelligent and skillful for his age and will become untransferable once a top club signs him. It's Mbappe of centerhalves we're talking about.

And City really do need to strengthen CB area, as Komps is a passenger these days, and Stones-Laporte pair needs a good competitor with similar qualities. Wouldn't be surprised to see Stones eventually benched by De Ligt, considering the former's everlasting confidence problems. De Ligt looks very determined, watch him bossing Ronaldo in the recent Portugal-Holland friendly.

You can't 'stockpile' talents of De Ligt's calibre though, he wouldn't sign without certain assurances regarding his squad status. Can see him staying on loan at Ajax for a year, but that's it.

If I was making the deal I would offer him a six year deal ,spending one year on loan.

I would also chip in on the "He's miles better than Sanchez" debate. He was. It was very clear that Mourinho targeted Davinson Sanchez as the weak link in Ajax's defence in that final, which is saying something when his partner was 17 year old De Ligt.

The chances that he'll be one of the top CBs in future are very high. In 3 years when he is 21, and both Kompany and Otamendi are both gone we'd have two 25 year olds and one 21 year old, with all 3 likely in the top 25 CBs in the world.

Don't see how that is necessarily a bad thing.

De Ligt will also (just) qualify as club trained if we sign him this summer and the rules stay the same.

There's no way we could sell Stones after what Pep said, Laporte just joined, and Nico just signed a new deal. I don't really think we could carry five centerbacks, nor do I know why he would sign up to play that role.

Pep has just said that "City are not going to drop him"

If De Ligt comes, I can see 3 possibilities:
- De Ligt goes on a 1-year loan to Ajax, Kompany fulfills his contract and leaves next summer
- Kompany is offered a limited role next season, perhaps without CL.
- Kompany hangs up his boots, his contract is paid off.
