From chrisbevan_bbc on Twitter: "Man City appealed over Mariga work permit at hearing at Wembley this morning. Attended by reps from club, FA, Prem Lge, PFA & ex-pros. Mariga had played enough games for Kenya to get permit but scuppered by Kenya's world ranking of 98. They needed to be ranked 70 or above. Man City can launch another appeal in a future transfer window but will not be able to register McDonald Mariga as a player in this one."

Un-fucking-believable.

What a stupid rule! He can't help it he's from Kenia

This is following a similar pattern to when our Berbatov bid was reported as accepted all day, then a couple of hours before the end Robinho came out of nowhere.

People slagging the club off as amateurish are being a bit premature.

to be fair mate slagging gary cock off for being amateurish is hardly about this single issue only - not really covered himself in glory on so many occasions, this being just one of many

So basically he was initially rejected days ago and has been rejected again at appeal so this is now dead as a dodo! Plan B should now swing into operation but will City have a plan B? Not likely!

typical City eh gary? and surely it's about time you officially changed your name by deed poll from cook to cock; as for marwood, what exactly qualifies him for his current role?

The work permit issue with Mariga is a massive surprise to all concerned. If ever a deal was certain this was it! Time for an early drink?

one hesitates to point this out but

I don't see how Big Mac would get a work permit -- Kenya are currently 98th in the FIFA rankings.
Anyway it's all back on now so the BBC says -- hmmm

Why all the Cook/Marwood hate?

Is it possible that perhaps our brand new manager wanted a few games to see where his problems lay, before we started spunking money on players?
Or that we have different targets we've been chasing that aren't currently available?

Anybody who believes that we started all of these transfers today is dumber than Neville after a headbutt.

Un-fucking-believable.

Quite frankly a player from a nation barely in the Worlds top 100 was never going to get a work permit.

I can understand City wanting to leave things late so it didnt trigger a chain where other clubs start signing players but we should really have taken a chance here, come on City stop cocking about

This is a joke how can he fail a work permit he already plays in Europe and has played enough games for Kenya national team to be granted 1 something doesn't sound right

Unfortunately where he currently plays isn't relevant.

He has to play 75% of Kenya's games in the last 2 years, he probably has done, however Kenya also have to be ranked in the top 70 nations in the World, I'm not sure that they are. Liverpool hit this issue with mark Gonzalez initially, he fit all the criteria however, at the time, Chile weren't in the top 70 nations so his wrk permit was rejected. Liverpool had to wait another 12 months to get him playing in the Premiership as, by that time, Chile were in the top 70.

fooking 'ell, on that basis could Lionel Messi have his work permit taken back if maradona stays as argentina manager for another couple of years?
