McClaren Sacked Official - Benitez takes over 3 yr contract

Rafael Benitez has been named as Newcastle's new manager, following the sacking of Steve McClaren.

The former Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Valencia boss takes over with the Magpies a point from safety with 10 games left.

Spaniard Benitez, 55, has signed a three-year contract and brought in coaches Fabio Pecchia, Francisco de Miguel Moreno and Antonio Gomez Perez.

"C'mon Toon Army. The club and I need your total involvement," he said.

Guys gone from his dream job to last resort in less than a year. Impressive.

He's gonna confuse the Geordies to f*ck

Looking forward to this. Think they deserve better up there and would like to see Benitez succeed.

Makems are already trolling Newcastle forums with "RAFA OUT" threads.

McLaren was/is shite ,never a manager in a million years, how the fuck he ended up as England manager I will never know, however he has been treated very poorly by Newcastle.

It's a gamble sacking your manager this close to the seasons end when your fighting relegation but this is a good gamble to take for them in my opinion. McClaren was shit and should never have been given the job, even more so after turning it down when Derby had a chance of getting promoted last season (before "changing his mind" when he threw that chance away - that should have raised alarm bells in itself!).

Rafa is a great appointment for them, it'll give the whole team a boost and should they stay up he'll be able to attract some players that Newcastle couldn't attract before hand. With the money their willing to spend staying up can give them a great chance at finishing higher up the league next year (should they stay up obviously).

Imagine for one second us behaving like Newcastle have done over this.

Football is cut throat and he probably needed to go but fuck me, they have not only negotiated with Rafa whilst he was still in charge, they have basically made him sweat right up to the point he has agreed to come in.

Im certain the managers union will have something to say and rightly so but what else do you expect from a club owned by a man who loves to employ folk on minimum wage in sweatshop conditions.
