Mcr > Blackpool bike ride

Haha yep saw the dead cat and a few other pieces of roadkill along the way.......

Completed the ride in 3hr 35, but then had to wait for my mate who finished the race in 5hr 20 as he giot knocked off and lost his brakes and most of his gears................ LOL made me laugh anyway :)

sounds like you had a decent day. The winds at Lythem were the same last year.

Did you get a goody bag at the end? Last year we got some ribena, bottle of water and a soreen breakfast bar (which was bloody lovely, but never seen them in the shops).

There is always roadkill on these rides. There was a massive squashed badger in the middle of the road when we did the Manchester 100 a few years back.

Did this years Blackpool ride go though that park? with the steep slippy hills? (think it was near preston) it was a death trap last year. Lots of ambulances around that part

My dad did the 6:30am ride and did it in 3 hours 20 after getting lost in Preston, although he did take a shortcut when he came towards the area we live in so it kind of evened itself out he tells me. He said there were no goody bags for them at the end but they were only just setting everything up for the rest of the day.

It was fuckin horrible.

Not been on a bike for 10 years, did it on a mountain bike with nobbly tires and a concrete seat. Never again.

I saw a dead cat, my arse feels like i've been fingered off an elephant, i got wet, i got blown around by gale force winds, it was all uphill, i wanted to cry when i hit the hill at lytham with the hurricane winds blowing back to manchester and then to top it off i finished and had to ride 5 miles to the fuckin train station where they would only let 6 bikers on each train regardless of whether you had booked a ticket for a specific train or not.

Never again, it was torture

It was fkn hard with the wind n rain at Lytham, but maybe next year you wanna do it with us.s 5 of us set off at 7.30 took 5 hours on mountain bikes, paid a mate 50 nicker to pick the bikes up in a van, we went to the sand castle had a shower got changed then went on the piss all afternoon in Blackpool, 10 cans o stella and 2 bottles of wine for the 8.20 train back home, great day.

Goody bags were alright, usual water and some cheap cereal bar but also got a cycling mag along with some free samples of original source shower gel, hand wash and tablets for joint pain :)

Do you mean Haigh Hall?? I remember a guys coming off his bike right infront of me last year........ Anyway, no we went round haigh hall this year and finished on south prom - same as last year

Somehow I dragged myself out of bed after doing a 25 mile grueller on Saturday around Jacobs ladder in the Peak District on the MTB,
and got a time of 3hrs 20, I was hurting from the off, 40 miles in I was feeling it bad, that little hill in Kirkham hurt, and the winds along St Annes front was pure horrible, about 4 mile from the end I found a burst of energy from somewhere and proper pushed through.

Didnt see many blues on the way, Saw 1 tall ish guy with his missus at the water table at the bottom of the hill in Kirkham and 3 or 4 in the Yeadon way pub afterwards.

set off at 7-15 on a mountain bike with road tyres, did it in 5 hrs but it seemed hilly as fuk this year? that wind as you hit the seafront was brutal, almost at a standstill for a few minutes. saw quite a few city tops including a dad n lad. did you see the guy sat atop that penny farthing thing, jesus,he had balls!! my only gripe is allowing cars along the seafront for the last 6 miles, its quite narrow and the cyclists are tired by then. great day but it hurts like hell during the ride.

That bike on stilts thing?
First saw him at the water stop in Kirkham, we stopped at a boozer further on to get a photo and missed him, waited at the finish and missed him again.

Hey, that was me at the water table! I had my long sleeved home shirt on. There I was at the table when two more blues rolled up - a guy and his Mrs with the short-sleeved home shirt on. I said the water's free for Blues and they laughed.

The guy on the 6ft bike was following us all the way but I never saw him stop once. We were all wondering how he managed at traffic lights and the like.

All in all it was a top day - even the winds in Lytham were good - they give you summat to talk about! :)

-- Mon Jul 05, 2010 9:03 pm --
