It would be interesting to put (as best as possible), United’s 89 accounts through the FFP rules (PL & uefa) and see how much percentage they failed by. (It can only be percentages, as the money growth in football has been insane since then).

Odd coincidence below

89 united start spending, 3 years later they start to win big.
Ruining football articles: 0
Organic money articles: infinite
Period of dominance: 20 years
Bad for football articles: 0
FFP rules introduced: 0

08 city start spending , 3 years later they start to win big.
Ruining football articles: infinite
Organic money articles: 0
Period of dominance: TBC
Bad for football articles: infinite
FFP rules introduced.... you get the idea

Yep we got done for ffp and getting shit for it since its been introduced lets go back and look at all clubs and if they failed ffp with there old accounts fine them and take the trophies of them! Its only fair.

I'm sure you are aware of the meaning of said terminology, basically hes suggesting that the football club is merely a carrier for the shieks business and the illegality of it and even helps expand it.

Its obviously bollocks and I do wonder where the fuck his view point has been for the last 10 years.

Weird it only surfaces after a fucking record breaking triple, the jealous ****

I thought sportswashing was used to cast a nice big shiny light on something successful they are involved with, to offset/hide less pleasant activities. Basically a huge PR exercise.

I think that would need a lot more context to compare - comparative other team spending, the dramatic change in the income landscape in 30 years. Overall, I think you'd need a long time to produce something meaningful.
But surely a simple sum of you can only spend X% of your money, would be straight forward. United spent over 100% of their turnover on transfers (let alone, (player+staff) wages, dividends, policing, gas/leccy etc)

Nb: accounting terms whooosh past me

Absolutely spot on.

Fair point - he won't flip flop again.

I think he is taking his position on usand won't shift if he is challenging the like of Miguel Whatshisface.,.......
It's funny but there couldn't be a better time for Journalists to go against the flow.

M.C.F.C are by far the most progressive club in world football. You'd think journalists and the broadcasting media would be falling over themselves to get in on the (positive) action.

To be honest I'd be more than happy if we only had a couple of decent journalists fighting our corner. The likes of Oliver Holt and Martin Samuels would do me.

It could, absolutely. Just setting the parameters by which is it judged is more difficult to get right (to me, again).

The PL and Sky changed the landscape so much, I'm just not sure much can be gained - it'll just confirm something we probably already know as a snapshot. I think you'd probably need the numbers for the other big rivals of the time as well to put time context on it (if everyone overspent, it's less of an issue).

We dont generate enough clicks with positive articles just think how much money they would of made from clicks if the scousers won the league they are hurting.

I think there are a couple of ways of looking at it. It’s mostly deflection and sometimes a vehicle to hide illegal activities.

Either way, it’s just a bullshit phrase and is currently another weapon to use against us.

All you have to do is read the comments section after a City article. Especially in the Daily Fail.

Bar City fans, every other comment is from Liverpool fans mostly, United fans, and to a lesser extent Arsenal fans. I think they can’t be read anymore. Time is a great healer after what we did to their club.

So, translate that into click bait. More negative stories about City(FFP) will get more clicks than positive stories about City.
