Not sure who you think the PL is? You think Masters and Brittain have any ideas in their heads that aren't planted there?

I've noticed a tendency in some to regard the PL as a body, somehow, independent of the clubs. It's a media-driven illusion. In fact, as you know and its worth reiterating, it's a corporate body with no mind of its own. The "controlling mind" of the PL is the party of shareholders who can gain (just) sufficient support to drive through their agenda. Masters and other officials are just the public face of the PL and convenient patsies to shoulder the blame and deflect from the activities of the controlling clubs.

The PL is the 20 clubs that comprise it. Heavily and disproportionately, influenced by the rag tops and Spurs.

All the members act in their own self interest but that doesn't mean they have a free rein.

Abandoning relegation will never happen. Public opinion and the government of the day would never permit it.

Crippling the PL economically, by introducing a salary cap will never happen;. Even American billionaires understand the concept of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.

I was watching a YouTube video the other day which had nothing to do with football.
Two of the guys (American) started talking about 'soccer' and talking about the worldwide model of promotion/relegation.
They both said what a great thing it would be if NFL, NBA etc adopted the same policy as it would stop a lot of dead games during the season and would also stop teams tanking towards the end of the season to help with the draft.
Just thought it was interesting to hear that take from American sports fans.

Actually, I agree with both you and @Newman Noggs.

What should happen is that the executive of the PL should be exactly that, executive. They should be doing what they think is right for the company. Not for individual shareholders, but for the company as a whole. This is what happens in all companies. Of course, if the shareholders don't like how the executives are executing their authority, they can remove them. This is also what happens in all companies.

What doesn't happen in all companies is that the executives conspire with a majority of the shareholders to discriminate against minority shareholders. That is the illegal part. And it needs a much stronger executive than the PL currently has to sort that part out. And, based on the last ten years, some serious external governance.

The PL just voted on an anchor. You think Masters has the balls to say no if the usual suspects put any of their other ideas up for a vote?
