Manchester City won the Champions League and Qatar hosted the World Cup, the oil states’ bid to take over the game is set to enter phase three. By 2030, writes Miguel Delaney, the sport will have been reshaped entirely​


yet he is always there…wonder why

Miguel Delaney is Chief Football Writer at The Independent. He has been in role since 2017, having worked as a football journalist for The Independent and other outlets for 15+ years. He has covered three World Cups, four European Championships and 14 Champions League finals.
And yet works for the son of a Russian Oligarch (and former KGB officer to boot) and a Saudi investor as the two biggest share holders of The Independent. I presume he donates every single penny of his salary to human rights organisations.
