Its absolutely the consistency that pisses everyone off. Rice got a yellow for kicking it away (deservedly in my book as he knew exactly what he was doing), but earlier in the game a Wolves player smashed the ball away when it was out for a throw in and got nothing. Refs just don't do themselves any favours at all and that's what drives people mad.

The two incidents weren't really comparable. Rice deliberately stopped a free kick being taken quickly. The Wolves player actually kicked the ball straight to the Arsenal keeper, whether deliberately or accidentally, so didn't delay the restart significantly. No Arsenal player was in a position to take a quick throw.

Deliberately stopping a quickly taken free kick by kicking the ball away has been a yellow since the dawn of time. I can't believe it's being debated tbh.

I don't know. They changed FFP but there's still a maximum allowable loss.
