Media discussion - 2024/25

Not really media but not worth starting a new thread for - just watching the golf & the commentators put football commentators to shame. They explain every stroke & don’t think there’s anything wrong with keeping quiet. They certainly don’t jabber on continually about stats & what happened 20 years ago.

Football commentators are really poor
Totally different

Agree totally. Tennis commentators also good to hear.
Love Boulter. Radacanu has ability but no work ethic. Prefers attending red carpet events &, of course, knows better than all her coaches.
In my world Radu is what's known as a 'brat'. She fluked that US open win, and has the audacity to say that Andy Murray was old news!!

I get the hatred for Sky, I really do. Their sychophantic behaviour to the cartel clubs and in particular the scum is sickening to the extreme. Their treatment of City is based on their loyalty to the clubs that made their business model a success and why they continue to pump billions into the premier league.

I understand why a number of Bluemoon posters mean well by telling others not to pay the subscription fee and I agree with them if it was based solely on their broadcasting bias towards the red clubs and obvious hatred of us, but and it’s a big but, without Sky TV, we would not be the the world’s most successful club of the past decade.

If Sky TV did not pump billions of pounds into the Premier League then Sheikh Mansour would never have been near us.

There would have never been the Aguero moment, we would never have had The Centurions, The Fourmidables, The only domestic treble winning team in the history of English Football, The only true Treble winning team in the history of English football, the first football team to win four top division titles in a row. The title winning comeback against Villa. The Gerard slip against Chelsea. Vincent Kompany’s goal gains Leicester in our 14 wins in a row to beat Liverpool by one point.

Every one of those is a memory implanted in our brains that will bring a positive emotional response in all of us that would never exist if Sky didn’t pump billions into the Premier League.

I’d imagine that Sheikh Mansour is now a massive Man City fan along with Khaldoon but I don’t believe they were in 2008. They saw a business opportunity in the returns that the Premier league could provide and unlike the Yanks they came with a plan to build the best team in the world and with it the rewards.

Sky TV indirectly made us the best team in the world. Our problem with Sky is that Sky don’t realise that yet.

I pay my Sky subscription without shame. It’s their money that brings the best players to the Premier League. It’s their money that brought Sheikh Mansour, Aguero, Yaya, David Silva, Zabba, De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Balon d’or winner Rodri, Erling Haaland, countless other players and the greatest manager in the modern game Pep Guardiola to our club.

I will probably get a loaded fire stick one day and stop paying for Sky but when we all do that, where is the money coming from to keep the Premier League as the best league in the world?
You don't need a loaded firestick, mines on a direct app on the TV, never buffers with my mega fast Virgin Broadband and I get all the City away games including those not on Sky, Amazon or TNT, £26 a month.

I, like you, had resisted the temptation to cancel Sky until this summer when SSN became Rag TV, I was absolutely sick of the wall to wall coverage of the Rags, I don't even bother putting SSN on anymore and my blood pressure thanks me for that, Sky and its Rag/Dipper/Tarquin biased coverage can do one.

Brat and winner can occur simultaneously, but it’s both rare and unseemly, especially given the prize money these days. Who needs to be an arsehole when you can make a great living being #100 and having a few sponsors?!

I always add Haringey into that mix - The RDAHMeedya! All started with MotD in the '60s. They could only cover one game and it was invariably Tottenham. Mind you, they did play some lovely football!

They are but the the football commentators don’t actually tell you what’s happening - they just have a list of facts to spew out to make them sound knowledgeable.

If you were blind & listening you wouldn’t have a clue what’s happening - but I guess you’d know that the players supported the rags when they were young :-)

Yer've only to Wiki some of these tennis players and the amount of prize money the also rans have won is staggering. What expenses they incur along the way but it's rare to read about a tennis player who isn't a millionaire!

I used to work as a Customer Service rep (ego massaging really) back in the late 80's and 90's and one of my "clients" was a guy in Malton called John Dyson, his brother was Terry Dyson who played in the 61 double winning team, I was only two at the time so don't remember the team but as you say they apparently played some great football.

John White who was killed by lightening on a golf course was also in that team, coincidentally John Dyson's son Simon became a pro golfer winning three tournaments on the European Tour, he lives in Manchester but unfortunately is a Yorkshire rag :-(

Edit, six wins on the European Tour
