No point in reading any newspapers this morning but the prospect of a Premier League club finishing 17th and still qualifying for the CL (whilst Forest/Villa miss out) is almost as farcical as the notion of an Arsenal-Spurs Super Cup Final, which frankly I would now willingly accept despite my irrational hatred of Fat Robby and ATV

Ange could literally find himself in an EL Final Penalty Shootout and sandwiched between Tottenham immortality if they win or sacked if they lose.

However that isn't the fault of Tottenham or United and if the roles are reversed then I would expect City to win the competition next season

Part of me thinks that UEFA didn't realise just how much their tinkering with the CL would weaken the EL, but I'm also wondering if they knew exactly what they were doing and whether this is their solution for those "legacy" teams who believe that you should still be eligible for the CL if you're now shite but won the competition 25 years ago.

It was a safety net for the G14(18) to remove any remote prospect of their not qualifying for the CL on merit. The weaker the EL the less jeopardy to any G14 club that finds itself in the shit.

Sometimes it’s worth remembering who were the G14, I wouldn’t have got it right.

AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan
Real Madrid, Barcelona
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Olympique de Marseille
Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund
Ajax, PSV Eindhoven
Manchester United, Liverpool
FC Porto

With Arsenal added in 2002 along with Leverkusen, Lyon and Valencia.

It always touches me when someone naive comes along to remind me that "it was replaced" in 2008 by the European Clubs Aaociation. As though member clubs like Ararat Armenia and Ki Klasvik (of the Faroes) are going to carry any sway whatsoever.

Ahem - and what about those European serial winners in Spurs!?!

Can't be forgetting about Spurs........
I have hated Spurs since the 1962 cup final the first game of football I can remember reinforced a hundred fold in 1981. But I am so up for them in the Thursday night cup, they are all that stands between us and a rag wank fest in the media. COME ON YOU SPURS.
