But that's what they told us. They never said "Ah well, now it's changed." Or maybe they said to Hughes "We've changed our mind since last week. We need top 4" so Hughes said he needed to spend a lot more money to even have a chance.

And as we're only 17 games into a 38 game season, it's a little premature to say that we weren't going to get it. Apart from the rags, all last season's top 4 had a run like we've just had at about the same time.

I've not seen anything to suggest that top 4 was really the target, apart from some mind-reading, know-alls on here. And now we have to get top 4 and the manager who is going to motivate the players can't even speak fucking English.

"Mark, we'll say publically the target is Top 6 but really it's Top 4. We don't want to be seen to heap too much pressure on you but with the financial backing we've given you it HAS to be Top 4"
 
I can't say I totally agree...because the other managers you cited didn't revamp the squad the way Hughes did. Preseason we all assumed it would take half a season to gel at all. Yet here we are...half a season gone...4 points out of 4th with a game in hand, not where we want to be...but not far off...with the better half of the season (we all assumed preseason) still to come.

That said, you explained your view greatly...and it was a great post. I just disagree.
