Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Working with a Portsmouth fan today asked him if he watched the game, first thing out of his mouth ‘Sterling is shit’ asked him for justification and not a peep, the press have done their work well
Many supporters know very little about football and even less about any analysis of it. This is not surprising considering the large number of ill informed individuals who parade themselves as journalists and pundits. It is very easy to follow the crowd and that is what is happening with Sterling. Not new as it was very similar a couple of summers back. He will be scapegoated for sure. As I have said before he is not been used properly by Southgate (not sure he can be in his system) so you have to fear for the lad. I just hope he is not damaged psychologically for next season.

He made lots of intelligent runs yesterday that weren't seen by his team mates, and even if they were they don't possess the top level speed of thought or passing ability to exploit them. Then you get the commentator praising "another quarterback pass" from Henderson. It's depressing.

In both matches his movement off the ball has been the best of any England player IMO. I just watch him making run after run in behind the opposition while the midfield choose to look up then knock the ball sideways or backwards. Kane may have scored goals but he struggled to get a touch of the ball aside from being given two pens to take and the ball hitting his ankle when he was trying to jump out of the way. He didn't come deep to get the ball like Raheem started doing either so he really did barely touch the ball.

Most certainly his England team players would miss the part of his game you describe and I think Southgate knows this but who knows.

If he scores a hat-trick v Belgium he'll be blamed for getting us in the more difficult side of the draw.

BFS on talkshite this morning sticking the boot into Raheem and Durham inviting callers to criticise his performances and this is after a 6-1 win ,it appears to be never ending , BFS commenting that RS is a confidence player , and the fact his comments and majority of the media are aimed at knocking his confidence is really beyond belief . The die is cast as far as Raheem is concerned the media and pundits have done a n excellent job of brain washing your average football supporter into thinking Raheem is shit and Rashford is the 2nd coming.
Raheem has definitely not produced his club form in an England shirt , and it is really frustrating looking at his contribution, he has so much more to give , but he still has the choice to give his all and accept the brick bats he will receive if he fails , or he can continue being a player on the peripheral and going through the motions whilst other far less talented players grab the limelight. Will the real Raheem Sterling please stand up and show the world what a very capable player he is , even if only make BFS eat his words (his words would have to served with Burger & Chips though, the fat c*nt)

Nice little place market Rasen only been for the racing but could see myself living somewhere like that
Mate of mine lived in Stallingborough about 25 years ago, used to go to Market Rasen races. It was like going back in time, in a good way. Not been back since.

Just watched England game.

How RS got such a low Mark from the public... ok ... I do know, that’s what this thread is about.

To me, he appeared to be active a lot, many many times asking for the ball in high positions and generally diddly squat service.
Contrast with Kane.

Many many times appearing in midfield to receive/give to the defenders.

A Few decent chances to score.

Gave the ball away once iirc.

Couple of neat flick ons, including the one for goal 3 (no mention in commentary).

But ... apparently worse performance than Pickford (nothing to do, other than a ‘moment’ and picking hall out of net), young (neat attempt at keeping ball in, but pretty useless), (and aside from the goal ) Lingard , and the 3 subs: Rose (who had a mare in a short cameo) and Delph (who to a tired person watching a small screen looks like smalling, ok inchy?).

Must have watched the wrong recording.

The real Raheem Sterling isn’t an out and out striker, playing alongside a statue and in front of the least creative midfield at the World Cup, though. That’s the problem.
If Kane had been picked to play on the left wing and was looking a bit ineffective and hadn’t scored in two games, I wonder if the whole country would be screaming for him to be dropped because he’s shit, or perhaps screaming for Southgate to play him in his rightful position?

He really should pack it in after this tournament, even if he had scored that hat trick they would say its 2 pens and a ridiculous deflection so doesnt really count.

Sterling should come out and just say I don’t mind taking all the stick it takes the pressure of all my team mates, So keep it coming I can take it.

He should have buried it, good save but it was right at him. A bit of direction on what was a straight forward header and it is either a goal or then a world class save
Only just had the opportunity to watch it again and I can safely say that you're miles off with that assessment.

The chance he missed was harder than it looked. The ball had hardly any pace on it and he's under a decent strong defensive challenge. He's not performing like he does for us but he's doing a different job

Southgate should come out and tell the press that they can all fuck off and that they are not welcome. Not one **** a the F.A has stuck up for the lad.
I’ve been saying this for months where’s Taylor PFA in all this, he’s done fk all to stop this hatred
