Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Tom

You have stated in this thread that Sterling has to perform as he is England best players which is fine. I have tried to explain to you that the reason he has played so well is that the players he plays with at Man City are great players who when he makes runs find him and he scores or when he makes those runs and crosses into the box his teammates score.

So my question to you is if he continues to do those runs but is not found by his England colleagues and continues to make those same crosses but nobody is there to score them is the faults Sterling's or his England colleagues? I know what Hoddle would say as he said often enough "his final ball was poor" perhaps it might be that the other players aren't as good as Sergio

The blame cant be laid at everyone else's door but Sterlings though surely? If people aren't finishing chances created that is another story, if he doesn't find a man with a ball that cant be the receivers fault every time. If he balloons a chance over the bar because he lacks composure at times that isn't because KDB hasn't passed him the ball. There is a balance involved in it all, I may sway one way and many the other but there definitely is a middle ground to the discussion.

@Tom_mcfc

Putting his on field displays to one side.......Do you believe the media,in general, treat Sterling different to other footballers?

Absolutely, his treatment is miles different to everyone else and is something I would agree with 100%. I think because of this it is why many are protective and can see/say no wrong. The same way many believe Sterling can't win either way I think the same with the media. If there was a positive piece about him being Englands best player it is a set up to fail, if it isn't then it is more mistreatment.

It isn't so i would appreciate you not making it about me with the random attacks.

As someone posted above he got a higher score than Rooney in some, it is selective memories when it suits.

Absolutely nothing to do with selective memory, like I said above, I googled it to check was my recollection correct and that's the first ratings I came across so there's no need to be a **** about it.

Cheers, because essentially that is what this thread is about. Its logical to witness supporters being over protective as a result.

Spot on, it does go off track at times because some of the media stuff is reflective of performances which then leads to discussions about said performances. No one can deny he is treated massively unfairly and different to other footballers.

I'm not being a ****, harsh choice of word also I would say.

You're telling me I have selective memory after I told you I googled to check, fairly appropriate choice of words imo.

The issue with the media is there is no middle ground. For instance against Nigeria according to the media Sterling was poor but Rashford against Costa Rica had a worldie according to that same media and there was a huge clamour to get Rashford to play instead of Sterling. Sterling was the only other player to be under threat it was not Lingard not Alli just Sterling. And to compare the two Sky Sports as they did with his statement re his gun tattoo falsified the stats to prove that Rashford was better than Sterling by ignoring Sterling's assist to Kane.

The issue is that if you had watched the matches yes Raz missed a couple of chances, chances by the way he created, but was always a threat and did make an assist. Whilst Rashford scored a great goal but apart from that did pretty much next to nothing but was feted as the all conquering hero

This is where we can agree to disagree then. I didn't see a clamour for Rashford to start, I seen it debated considering Rashford played well off the back of Sterling not playing that well the game before. Gloss over the Nigeria game with the "assist" however anyone on this board could have played that 5 yard side foot pass to the only man available. Rashford on the other hand scored a world class goal. It was discussed nothing more, no mass hysteria which is made out on here.
You claim Rashford done nothing but in the same breath had Sterling scored that goal, pulled off the flicks Rashford did, picked team mates out the way he did, one pass in particular over the right full backs head for our attacker to run on then this thread would be in dream land. Sterling runs at defenders and looks dangerous without much end product for England and every slight thing is magnified to be amazing.

It may have been Sterling under threat as he is looked at as a guaranteed starter, I don't think Alli and Lingard are considered that so they wont say Rashford will replace Lingard when he doesn't even have a spot in the team. Sterling will start and it is down to the lad to play well. If he doesn't play well it isn't the medias fault for "setting him up to fail" the ball is in his court to be as influential as he has been for City this season. If he fluffs his lines then there is no one to blame. That is obviously the case for every player stepping onto the pitch tonight.

Sounds great this Rashford bloke. Is he related to the one at United. Sub, who scored few, no assists and is surplus to Maureens requirements.

Still waiting on the positive posts you say you did about him during the season
Perhaps you should start your own thread about how you don't rate him so we can read about the media in here
Just a thought
He must be a Blue because he's got MCFC in his user name but without even looking out for his posts I've noticed, on top of bashing Sterling he's been quick to defend De Gea, Rashford, Lingard and Rooney today. Hmm.

1. There is nothing more sadder than an adult calling him Maureen
2. We spend the season saying how "Maureen" is past it and lost the plot but now him not playing Rashford is somehow seen as a negative for Rashford.
3. Similar to 2 but we laugh at how United play, their negative and how "Maureen" is ruining good players yet again it is then used as a stick to beat Rashford with.
4. Another person who loves stats when it suits, compare their England stats as this is what the discussion is and then come back to me.
