Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

The Sterling-bashers might want to consider why he in particular was singled out for that attention given that he's not an especially niggly player who goes around winding up opponents. Could it have been that they saw him as a dangerous opponent and decided to try provoking a reaction from him?

I have no doubt the researchers plus the whole club up and down whoever we play has the up and down on any team.

The real question is do you leave your penalty takers to chance or do you tell them where to kick?

Im not a particular fan of Sterling but I am convinced the attack on him is more to do with us. Had he left the dippers and joined the rags under the same circumstances, I do not believe for one moment he would be getting this abuse. I believe the media/pundits et al are scared shitless that the monopoly of love once held by the dippers and rags is not coming back soon, and that isn't palatable to them.

People are comparing his two absolute sitters he missed with a snap shot just inside the area from Vardy, if that isn't clutching at straws then what is.
I'm not interested in comparing chances Raheem has missed with the offside shot Vardy had last night. I don't know how you define "just inside the area" but why does something tell me that if Sterling had had that shot last night you definitely wouldn't have described it as a shot from just inside the area?

I'm sorry did Vardy miss an open net? No, he then didn't miss a header from a few yards out which he should have buried against bin men.

Why do you only go in on me when I am talking about his performances in here? I came on and MANY were discussing the match. I then had my input. It is odd you pick and choose my posts to pull up, my first post was saying what a disgrace that article was. Ignore that though if you want.

Maybe it's because you talk a load of shite. In fact, I've heard more reasonable comments about Sterling from armchair Dippers and Rags than the stuff you post.

This thread has clearly highlighted the unfair stick Sterling gets from the public and the media, something which you acknowledge, and yet you have a pop at City fans defending one of their own. If Sterling wasn't scapegoated then people would be more critical of him. But the fact stands that he gets picked on for things other people don't and you have highlighted this yourself. You confuse the fact of people making Sterling out to be a world beater and people commenting on Sterling playing better than other players but being scapegoated.

Sterling misses an offside sitter he gets slated. Vardy does the same and nothing gets said. You can argue semantics all you want about Sterling being two yards out and Vardy's being a harder chance but both shots should have gone in the back of the net.

Sterling dives and gets slated. Lingard and Maguire dive and nothing gets said.

Sterling tries to beat a man but gets disposed and he's wasteful. Rashford does the same and its positive play from wonderboy.

Sterling miscontrols the ball in a dangerous position and he's crap. Lingard does it and it's good movement and unlucky.

The list of double standards is fucking laughable and it's the media who stoke the club tribalism which means people don't get behind the national side.

What people fail to mention when judging Sterling is the impact he has on the team as a whole. He always wants to receive the ball from the CBs, something which we evidently lack after he went off last night. His link up play with Lingard is very good and he is playing out of position in a side designed to get the best out of Harry Kane. It's similar to the whole Yaya/Fernandinho or Owen/Heskey scenario where the player who scores the goals get all the credit but the contribution of their team mate in doing the dirty work shouldn't but often gets overlooked.

Well said that man!

If he is good enough for Pep, he is good enough for anyone and to be fair to Southgate, i dont for a second think he is swallowing any of the negative shit the lad keeps getting and all because he dared to leave Liverpool.
