Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

It’s just all very sad now. It’s become a national scale bullying campaign like no other, against a young lad who’s had a very hard upbringing to make himself one of the countries best footballers. It’s staggering how mentally strong he is. If he wasn’t, god knows what would happen. Imagine millions of people slagging you off day in day out for no reason.

England fans don’t actually watch him play now. The second he gets it, just abuse hurled at the screen. Even when top pundits, experts and the England management give him nothing but praise, the masses just ignore it.

Pathetic.

Yep...in all honesty i would rather he played for Jamaica where he would be appreciated by the nation

They all need a scapegoat and thanks to the fucking media, our thick fucking ****ing England fans, have made our raz public enemy number one.

I had an argument with two blokes yesterday, about the abuse they were giving him.

Wankers.
It's a bit unusual though because you'd think people would only need a scapegoat if England were losing. I think it shows a huge change in society as a whole that this is happening during such a successful tournament for England.

This sums up perfectly why I:
a) no longer watch England games in a pub
b) find it very difficult to join such morons in getting behind the England team
I'm primed full of "fuck offs" for these c~nts which is why I can't watch it in a pub. I'm out to a bbq this afternoon so I'll probably have loose a few off there instead.

I started off with 'Oh come on's' and ended up spraying 'Wankers' around like machine gun fire. Will be back in there this affy to survey the damage.

Its a full blown hate campaign, and to be honest he will be seeing it all via his phone. If th3 so called england fans want him dropped I would call their bluff now because i would be fed up of it all. Let southgate play whoever the fuck he wants and watch the movement become stagnant upfront and england struggle

Lingaard wont pass to him, because i reckon the fucking halfwit wants his pal rashford on the pitch with him - thats how deep this goes imo.

The vitriol that is evident regardless of what is happening infront of their eyes on the tv is shocking. It is a pack mentallity, scenario example: same in this pub are saying sterling is shit, hmmmm well he must be shit. I want to fit in and be part of something, i know i will start shouting it myself.

I hate the kind of brain dead white van ****s who come out of the woodwork for England games, & then you get all the fucking students & champagne socialist Tarquin **** types who have never seen a fucking game, suddenly becoming World's Biggest Fan. When both join in the same cause, I feel like dropping napalm on it.

So I stay clear.

I will be watching the semi, in Norway, which has a large contingent of utter wanker, bitter & deluded Liverpool fans (worse than the rags).

Should be interesting.

Yep. As I said yesterday, I'd be quite happy to see rashford to start in Wednesday and England get shat on. Would be exactly what the great English public deserve.

It's definitely turned away from a media thing and into a fan thing. Sterling's performance yesterday was generally well received by the pundits and by the media but your average England fan isn't having it. After vowing to keep away from it, I still spent last night defending his corner, tbf, they're mostly Man U supporting Rashford fan boys, but their lack of understanding of the game and, even worse, lack of support for England does my head in.

Good to see that more and more are popping up praising him for everything he's doing. I'm not Lineker's biggest fan but he is one of the most prominent figures in British football and him pushing out some support and praise for Sterling to his 7 million followers will change a few minds.

I even popped onto a United forum and found a comment chain full of praise for him, slapping down someone who said he was shit. Twitter seems to be full of people sticking up for him too.

I feel the tide is starting to turn. It's definitely happened regarding the tabloids to the point that the general public just seem to be sick of an anti-sterling story and reject it on principle, and if he were to finally get his goal on wednesday (or the final if it arrives) then he could find that the boo boys disappear and the story of his tournament becomes a really positive one.

Lineker seems quite happy to make a stand on this. I think he knows that his support carries a fair amount of weight.

It possibly stems from him being no friend of the more abusive sources - Sun, Mail, etc.

My ex brother in law is mouthing off on FB that Sterling is off form and should be dropped lol. Don’t know what they expect from the lad. He’s not off form, sick of telling him .
