That looks exactly like the canned beef casserole my Mrs buys. Now it makes sense why the label always falls off the can before she gets home from the shopping.

Lovely mind!

;-p
Don't joke. Many moons ago as an impoverished student towards term end I was once reduced to buying a tin of Tesco Irish stew which was slightly cheaper than the same size tin of Pal dog food. It was fucking awful and left me wishing I'd pushed the boat out and bought a tin of Pal.

British transfer record broken something like 8 times running wasn't it? Even after the crass of 92 they kept spending, although Shearer's fee to Newcastle was top for a good bit. In fact O'Shea and Brown might be the only academy players brought through between that shower and Danny Welbeck and O'Shea is pushing it, they signed him from Waterford Athletic at 17.
O'Shea is one of those non-academy players the rags and their sycophantic journalists include in the myth that they've had at least one academy player in every match day squad since before the Battle of Hastings. O'Shea on the bench was counted as their only academy player in a number of matchday squads.

Don't forget, Shearer actually turned United down in favour of Newcastle.

They would have gladly broken another record there, just as they attempted to do on another with David Hirst.

Then it was Ronaldinho...

People rightly focus on the ridiculous amounts they parted with years back, but forget the ones who got away.

Their caveat has always been they used their own money, with little irony that Neil Webb, Danny Wallace, Paul Ince and Gary Pallister, were all financed that particular summer by a crook who didn't even have the cash to buy their poxy club.

Let's not even get in to where the money amassed by Dermot Desmond, JP McManus and Magnier came from, prior to selling their stakes to Glazer, as you would probably go missing, just like Shergar.

Slur Alex tried to take on people who have a penchant for kneecaps...
David Hirst was a brilliant striker. Shame injuries ruined his later career.

I’m crying with laughter, I can just imagine that impoverished student, standing in the middle of Tesco’s with a can in each hand, weighing up the nutritional benefits of each can versus the cost per 100g.
