I seem to remember Alan Ball was very vocal of his criticism of Paul Hince at the time of his sacking saying some of his pieces turned the club against him, nothing to do with adding City to the list of clubs he had relegated of course.

There were plenty of blues around at the time who also thought that Hince was bitter towards Francis Lee claiming his arrival was the reason Hince was shipped out to Oldham in his playing days. Nothing to do with the fact that he wasn't good enough to sustain a career at top flight level of course.

It was a long time ago and maybe I'm talking bollocks but that's how I remembered it.
Not bollocks. When I saw Hince play just after his signing, I was gobsmacked. He was that bad and didn't improve.

That's how the club started in the first place, when John Houlding engineered the eviction of Everton from Anfield and bought a load of mainly Scottish players he called "Liverpool".

And United had not one but two sugar daddies, both of whom saved them from extinction.
I think that Liverpool team became the first "league" club to field a side with no Englishmen in it.
Or have I fallen for a myth?

Yes, reference was first made to it on page 707.
I've read it, and my first thought is why now, although others have probably answered that - also what's the motivation of the father, and what's he looking to get out of it?
I can guess. This story was from 10 years ago and the article says the kid was recently trying to get back into English football. So I can imoagine a scenario where he's being touted around, someone shows interest and the question is asked "What are you going to do for us?". The answer is negative, or not considered good enough, and the father reveals what City did for him.

Whoever he's revealed that to has then contacted a journalist, who just happens to be a United fan. Got to come clean here that Adam Crafton's family are good friends of mine and I've known him since he was a little boy. He's done some fantastic stuff previously but this is definitely not his finest hour.

EXCLUSIVE Man City accused of attempting to induce Brazilian teenager to play for club by creating “fake” scouting job for his dad

Gabriel Fernando Almeida's father received around £1k/month from Sept 2011-June 2012

I think (but not sure) that adam crafton is a little united fan, just going off his tweets that seem biased towards them. I stand to be corrected like, but would be another snide attempt to destabilize/tarnish us if so.

Going off the comments it seems that sort of stuff is quite common, but obviously he's gone out of his way to go against City, and the Athletic are putting it out as a big EXCLUSIVE. *sigh*

No mention of Jizzyjazz's family being brought over and housed in a gated development in Didsbury and a job for Dad at Kellogs. JFEs family were brought over from Ireland and doubtless many others had similar benefits.
This article in The Athletic is pathetic. Any decent journalist in football could knock up an article in 5 mins about multiple high profile footballers that had parents given an assortment of jobs by football clubs. Some very high profile players had multiple family members on the payroll.

The length of the article about an unknown player from 10 years ago that had his Dad earning £1k a week !!

Jesus wept. What is going on at The Athletic ??

Ex Daily Mail united fan iirc

Quite right mate.

It saddens me that some brain dead morons actually seem to hate United more than they care about hungry children.

Marcus Rashford is one of the finest examples of what a modern footballler should be, more than virtually any other out there.

THe lad is a modern day hero. He really should be knighted asap.
A bit OTT, but the sentiment is fine.

Another football website has picked up on it. It will be all over the tabloids and the internet soon. #cun*s!
