There have been more City players in each of the 5 teams Southgate picked than any other club by a considerable distance. They've also been lavishly praised by the media.

Looking at this thread is like putting your tongue on a battery when you're a kid. Some of you are like Viz characters.
To be fair Southgate hasn't had much choice. Stone, Walker and Sterling have been exceptional, and there haven't really been any alternatives in their positions. The media haven't been able to find fault (apart from Sky basically belittling Sterling's' performances to lavish praise on Harry Hotspur).

Thanks DD the lol I put at the end was to hopefully indicate it's non serious nature. It has failed.
Apologies if that did not come across my friend.

I think Southgate has got the right idea by gradually including as many Man United players as possible into his team's. Pick his games obviously but let them shine as much as possible.
Liverpool s turn next season should ensure his popularity with both media and their targeted subscription base.
Whether he will dare replace his core defence and spearhead of City players is debatable but he has made a start by withdrawing Foden. Lol.
I think he will keep the City core in the side as that is what is keeping him in a job, the trick is ensuring only Rags are mentioned, oh and Sir Harry.

Or we're just having a laugh

To get to Battle(the town) just outside Hastings Harold got his men to walk 25 miles a day which is crazy. They got there in 9 days picking up the fyrd soldiers along the way and spent a week preparing for battle which normally they would have around a month. Williams army have 3 weeks rest before and Harold very nearly won which is remarkable considering the odds were massively stacked against him
Iirc The English occupied the high ground and although tired and exhausted they were in no danger of ‘losing’ … until the Normans attacked again (having been repelled many times), then pretended to retreat in disarray, causing the common troops to charge down the hill after them believing victory was there’s, where they were severely battered by the ‘retreaters’ and the Norman cavalry which could be deployed on the flat lower ground. Harold was left with 1/3 of his troops gone…and the press of the next Norman attack with vastly improved superiority of numbers … and having seen 1/3 of their number massacred, having fought continuously for most of the day and the knock-on effects of the amazing March from Stamford bridge… and then Harold being injured…

still, it united England and we never suffered a successful conquering invasion ever again.

It caters for the lowest common denominator - Rag 'n Dipper armchair fans who just want to hear how impressive, enormous, successful (without any trophy haul!) their clubs are - and Sky 'n BT cater for them shamelessly!
And the terrestrial tv too. I am sure you remember the olden days on the cup final where most people watched bbc in preference to the low standard commentary on ITV as they catered for the populist mass market. I always found Sky even worse in that respect. High volume cheap tat despite the fancy gadgets.

Why is slabhead gettin all the praise? Just saw a pic on IG from brfootball with Maguire with the ball in his hands in front of Shaw,Stones and Walker as if he was the reason England didn‘t concede in their first 5 games while he only played 3!
Overrated ugly ass. Can‘t believe people think he’s better than Stones just because he plays for the Rats from the other side!

He has darting eyes like a rat and giving the impression he doesn't really know what's going on. He blunders about in the league but it is hardly mentioned let alone highlighted.
I'm my completely unbiased opinion he comes 4th on that quartet. And it's easy even for me to be completely unbiased on the back four.

I can still recall, can't remember the teams though, when ITV were grabbing a couple of live games, and five mins in the screen went blank, so the long-awaited game was replaced with 'Sorry for the loss of picture . . . . . .!' The game was over before the picture was found!

BBC commentary ran for just over a minute on Saturday before MANure were mentioned. I think the BBC commentators' horoscopes indicate that if they get a MANUre mention in pretty early on then England will get a pen!

Kevin Day on talkshite this afternoon. Being a palace fan he was asked about Viera and praised City as as good grounding for him. Then he spoke about the International team.

"Pep Guardiola deserves credit, along with Southgate for this England team. He's brought skill, and the patient possession game to the premier league, which his English players adapted to and helped transfer to the rest of the team. He's revolutionised the national game."

Amazingly their sports editorial has completely ignored it.

Oops. He might not be invited on again with those opinions!

I’m pretty sure the year would be 1415, and the English archers would have been putting two fingers up to the French.

What’s he that wishes so?
My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin:
If we are mark’d to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God’s will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires:
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England:
God’s peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more, methinks, would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made
And crowns for convoy put into his purse:
We would not die in that man’s company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is called the feast of Crispian:
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say ‘To-morrow is Saint Crispian:’
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.
And say ‘These wounds I had on Crispin’s day.’
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,
But he’ll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day: then shall our names.
Familiar in his mouth as household words
Harry the king, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember’d.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember’d;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.
'That's very good, that is... Worthy of Shakespeare, himself. In fact, I'll go one better. It's worthy of "the Great Bard"...'
- Alan Partridge

He’s a top man, Kevin Day, a genuine, lifelong, match going football fan who knows his stuff, unlike q great many celebs. He did a good feature at a City game on MOTD2 a few years back

Spoke with Kevin Day outside the pub he drinks in near selhurst park after the 0-0 draw that ended our winning run. I asked him " what time is the open top bus parade? " He laughed at that. Seems a decent chap.

As a relative newcomer to this site, can I ask all posters put lol at the end of their messages so I can know if it's serious or not. At the moment, I'm never sure.

I know many of you believe that there is favouritism to teams that play in red. I have to say that it hasn't worked for our lot. lol
