'Whataboutery' is one of Simon Jordan's go to words. Funny though, that when Shouty Man went to town on England fans because of the trouble at the Euro final, saying the rest of Europe calls it the 'English Disease', Jordan pointed out that it isn't the case. Most of Europe, especially Italy, have their troubles too, he said. Obviously, he was only comparing like for like thugs from different countries as a way of getting his point across. He did the same only yesterday, when again Shouty Man asked if English teams should boycott the chimps league final, should they qualify, because of the situation in Ukraine. 'Of course not', he said, other sports don't boycott the likes of Qatar and Saudi Arabia because of human rights abuse. Of course, it was only for comparison reasons to highlight his point and not 'whataboutery'. They all do it, and like you say, it's a way of shutting peoples arguments down when they haven't an answer to a legitimate question.
Whataboutery is used by hypocrites when they’re being hypocritical & don’t want to admit their hypocrisy

Hurrah for the Blackshirts?

Totally this. Never forget how the Mail and it's high society backers and the elite including failed king Edward the mardarse admired that nice chancellor of nazi Germany. Working people in London's East End battled the Blackshirt scum - battle of Cable Street I think. The Mirror called out the nazis for what they were, back when it was a genuine newspaper.

Don't forget that almost all of the iconography of the modern Olympics including torch relays, dramatic staging and huge commercialisation can be traced to the Munich games of 1936.

Much of the data on the human body's physiological limits was discovered in the death camps.

The vehicle to take mankind on its first step towards the stars was based the the V2 (vengeance) rockets designed by Werner Von Braun. He used slave labour to build the V2s and didn't care.

The 2nd biggest Nazi party in wartime Europe was in Holland, despite the collective amnesia caused by revisionist films like Soldier of Orange.

The point I guess is that it's very easy to have selective memory, as our very well paid members show in Westminster, often. To say nothing of our craven 'friends' of the fourth estate.

The Athletic made operational losses of £41m in its last set of figures and that was even after shedding 8 per cent of its workforce. Whatever they are doing they are not keeping enough of their customers happy and Sam Lee is on a very dodgy wicket. Let's wait and see what happens with their new bosses at the New York Times.

New York Times Co. bought the Athletic for $550 million in January, so it'll want to see a return on that investment. What that means for Lee is anyone's guess, but I'll wager that the difference between Lee being retained or booted, won't hinge on anything our fan base does and absolutely nothing to do with Twitter spats.

So far no one in the media has had a Eureka moment, leapt from their chair and screamed "I know how to make loads of money! Let's give City a break" and I don't see anyone at The Athletic doing it any time soon.

There seems to be a lot of links to the NYT where City agendas are concerned. This publication was also the source of the leaks during the UEFA investigation. I doubt the takeover will improve anything, from a City point of view.

"Who are the Athletics new owners and why is it bad for impartial journalism? 3 page special reveals all, including the links to project big picture architect and ESL front runner, John Henry."

The lesson there is don’t let your hate fuelled envy interfere with your rational :-)
City fans absolutely humiliated and exposed virtually the entire industry over CAS.
People who, unlike them, are not paid a salary to research such matters did so anyway and they shone a harsh and unforgiving spotlight on the football media’s unprofessionalism, their gullibility, their petty biases and their stupidity.
They will never forgive us for that

A loss of $41m, surely they would get a 2 year ban for that.

The City FFP investigation and CAS case encompassed financial and legal issues that your average football hack couldn't possibly understand. I think most of them recognised that, but some, the likes of David Conn and Nick Harris, think they have expertise in the area even though their performance with regard to the matter at hand decidedly suggested otherwise.

When people such as Sam Lee claim they discussed the matter with experts, they needed to ask those experts whether they'd studied the proceedings in CAS 1. In that case, City challenged the referral from UEFA's Investigatory Chamber to the Adjudicatory Chamber. Though we lost in that instance, the tribunal in its ruling was quite receptive to City's arguments generally. Moreover, that ruling contained an exposition of what some of our main arguments in the main CAS case would be.

I strongly suspect that, when people such as Sam Lee say they consulted experts, those experts weren't aware of CAS 1. I'd be amazed if Sam had the perspicacity to ask them.

A final point. These journalists seem to think they're intellectually superior to fans. Well, maybe they are to many fans, but, as was amply demonstrated in the CAS matter, we have people among our number whose perceptiveness pisses all over any of theirs.

I don't count myself among that number and don't want to come across as conceited, but sometimes I reflect on the intellectual qualities needed to do my job. None, literally, of the WhatsApp group would have a prayer, and Sam Lee would be so far away from being capable, it's untrue.

So fuck yourselves, you self-aggrandizing, conceited twats. Come back when you've developed the skills to match your delusions. I'll expect you when he'll freezes over.

You should count yourself among that group Peter. Your contributions to the forum are invariably expert and illuminating.
