I agree with almost all of this, but when you say....

"This never ends well."

I disagree, Lee and the Athletic will be perfectly fine. What possible blowback will there be? As City fans, assuming we're all aware that Lee is being deliberately disingenuous, which clearly we're not, and assuming we all disagree with whatever he's on about, and we don't, and assuming we give a shit either way, we're insignificant in the scheme of things.

We don't have the numbers, we don't have unanimity, we don't have the organisation or the motivation and we don't have a voice.

Lee knows that, he can f**k around with us all he likes, what are we going to do beyond post in here? Pull our subscriptions from the Athletic? You're having a laugh! Giving us a good kicking is good for clicks from rival fans, we all know this. In fact giving the club and the fans a fair crack of the whip would undoubtedly do more damage to subscriptions than peddling his puerile bullshit.

No, he's alright and he knows it, the spineless scribbler might know sweet Fanny Adams about f**k all, but he knows where his bread is buttered.
It will not be butter but cheap margarine

Journalist’s consider themselves to be more intelligent than the typical tribal football fan.
so they can cope with bricks and bottles being thrown(as long as it’s not at them) but resorting to stone cold facts to discredit them as simplistic lazy arsed moronic fucktards that failed to research prior to publishing stories made up on foundations of bullshit really hurts their egos.

Reminds me of something one of my mentors told me when I started working in Geneva. People will forgive you for making a mistake, but they will never forgive you for being right.

Schalke have removed Gazprom's logo from their shirts acording to the Metro, The Indy and The Daily Mein Kampf (Mail). Will UEFA follow suit and indeed go one better and cancel the sponsorhsip ?

If he pointed his barrel down the East Lancs Road we all know what would happen, there is no journalist brave enough to do that not even Sam Lee. Our fan base as opposed to the cult is comfortable with our club our owners and our future and that is the chemical mix that these journalists are unable to cope with. Instead he tags one of our prominent posters to try to attach him to an alleged abusive fan base when all that poster does is let us know the truth either about our club or the clubs finances and is a well respected poster on Bluemoon along with others. The one thing that does concern me with the ever grasping journalists is why have fans suddenly become the enemy on the front line because since watching City from the 50's I never recall seeing in print, attacks on a clubs fans, this is a recent phenomenon.
"...there is no journalist brave enough to do that..."

Nail hit firmly on the head. They're not stupid enough to inflame The Cult and risk recrimination.

I doubt they'll cancel it as they'll want to normalise relations asap after the war has ended. However they might well play down the connection by removing their logo from all UEFA material in the hope Gazprom piss off of their own accord.

The Athletic made operational losses of £41m in its last set of figures and that was even after shedding 8 per cent of its workforce. Whatever they are doing they are not keeping enough of their customers happy and Sam Lee is on a very dodgy wicket. Let's wait and see what happens with their new bosses at the New York Times.

Excellent post and in one way or another these hyprocrisies have been put to the WhatsApp group.
Their response "Whataboutery".

The go to phrase when you're losing a debate.
Not seen who said this... Was it Nick by any chance? He seems one of the most copout prone of the whatsapp group.

Whataboutery, is a term people use, when they can't argue that they haven't been caught out with blatant double standards. I suppose in their profession, admitting you have double standards or agendas is not done, because integrity(or the illusion of it) is supposed to be paramount.

Pigeons and chessboards spring to mind though, when I see that buzzword used.

Absolutely a recent phenomenon, and it isn't on. Quite a few (we all know who they are) go out of their way to antagonise our supporters, and then act all surprised when they don't get thanked for doing so.

I wonder whether the sports reporters on RT (Russia today) - never watched it -had it in for us or were part of the WhatsApp menagerie.

Just waiting for one of the usual suspects to link City with Putin and the invasion of Ukraine.

Absolutely mate.

The treatment of Colin Mafham by the cult-riddled Reach PLC was prima facie evidence of this

'Whataboutery' is one of Simon Jordan's go to words. Funny though, that when Shouty Man went to town on England fans because of the trouble at the Euro final, saying the rest of Europe calls it the 'English Disease', Jordan pointed out that it isn't the case. Most of Europe, especially Italy, have their troubles too, he said. Obviously, he was only comparing like for like thugs from different countries as a way of getting his point across. He did the same only yesterday, when again Shouty Man asked if English teams should boycott the chimps league final, should they qualify, because of the situation in Ukraine. 'Of course not', he said, other sports don't boycott the likes of Qatar and Saudi Arabia because of human rights abuse. Of course, it was only for comparison reasons to highlight his point and not 'whataboutery'. They all do it, and like you say, it's a way of shutting peoples arguments down when they haven't an answer to a legitimate question.

Yep and the usual suspects are still raging and bitter about the fact ‘civilian’ City fans ran absolute rings around them over the CAS hearing
