He is English tbf, from the north east iirc but pretends to support some minor Scottish team.
He is a true hack in the worst sense of the word, writes whatever for whoever as long as it is precisely what they want. And in this case an Irish newspaper will always want City hatchet jobs to play to their predominantly redshirt readership.
Nicolson occasionally pollutes the otherwise decent Football365 where he has previous
Boro fan I think.

The DT this morning suggests that the 'breathless classic' from yesterday 'delights Pep'! I should imagine Pep doesn't give a flying fuck. I couldn't be arsed reading the actual report as I suspect the hack would suggest that CFC 'n The Dippers are awarded a further six points each for such 'breathless classicism'!
They say breathless classic, I say two managers who aren't tactically astute, can't control a game and simply rely on outscoring the opposition.

The basics of footie are, 'keep the ball, pass the ball.' If you do, you have a better chance of winning as the opponent doesn't have the ball.

Not the most difficult of concepts, but only a select few, if not one, manager(s) can implement it.

It was weird after yesterday’s wacky races the two teams players and management all went on about how entertaining the game was and this was picked up by the media elevating 90 minutes full of mistakes to the greatest game of the season.

They know the game is up and are going to now push a boring City narrative.

All a bit embarrassing for them really.
Yeah I noticed that, massive smiles on all the sly sports faces and extoling the virtue of the greatest game of the season, complete bunch of gits

What's annoyed me about the media whingeing about the penalty incidents is the lack of understanding of how VAR is supposed to work. It's supposed to draw the referee's attention to a "clear and obvious error".

For the Ederson/Odergaard incident, the replays were very inconclusive and therefore it wasn't a "clear and obvious error". Had Attwell given it as a penalty, it most likely wouldn't have been overturned, as (again) it wasn't a "clear and obvious error". None of the twats appear to understand this, making them either totally thick or totally biased. It wasn't Attwell's choice to go to the screen or not, it was Moss who made that decision.

Bernardo, on the other hand, was clearly caught by Xhaka. In the ground, we all saw that and were astounded it hadn't been given. I didn't see the shirt pull at all but that was completely irrelevant. What is relevant was that Bernie was tripped and the ref missed that, which was a "clear and obvious error".
Exactly why Ramsdale's quotes about Atwell not going to the monitor should not have given the coverage they were

SJIAC, TS had a call from a City fan discussing Rodri incitement of the Arsenal fans. SJ says that we wouldn't experience this as City don't fill their ground. Think the Blue was caught off guard but I like to think that I would have called him a childish ****
I reckon an estimate of 15k empty seats on Saturday would be being kind to Arsenal

Piece from Jonny Nicholson Irish Examminer think it's called?

When winning becomes boring

Manchester City moving 11 points head after their win (10 after the Chelsea v Liverpool draw) was bad for the Premier League and bad for everyone who isn’t a City fan. To have the season sewn up in the first days of the new year is, to say the least, disappointing. Football is about competition.

When it is a cakewalk for any team, it makes it all feel a bit pointless. When it is the same team that has won in three out of the last four seasons, even more so. As fantastic as their football often objectively is, it leaves people cold. It has the soulless ice of technical drawing and lacks the warmth created in struggle. The City sportswashing project has been 100% successful, their wealth so entrenched now, and so unquestioned, that I feel we should ignore them as much as possible and try to pretend they don’t exist. Everything will be far more enjoyable that way.

I remember similar articles from Jonny Nicholson around the 2019 & 2020 new years.

"Liverpool moving 10 points ahead after their 5-1 win vs Arsenal was bad for the Premier League and bad for everyone who isn't a Liverpool fan. To have the season sewn up just before the the turn of the new year is, to say the least, disappointing. Football is about competition."

"Liverpool moving 13 points clear (with a game in hand) was bad for the Premier League and bad for everyone who isn't a Liverpool fan. To have the season sewn up in the first days of the new year is, to say the least, disappointing. Football is about competition."

Oh wait, no, I just made those up

Politically I like the Guardian, and they have some excellent writers such as John Harris.
For sports, forget it, I would never go near them. For me it’s easy to divorce the 2 aspects bear no relation for me.
Another example: best sports journalist bar none, and not just on City but on all sports, writes for the Daily Mail (Martin Samuel), yet apart from their sports, I would never touch the rest of their paper, esp the politics. I could also use the BBC as an example, although for them, it’s just their football rather than the whole sports output that I would single out.
My other gripe re the bbc Is when their online football produces something out of order re City and someone on here decided to link it to Jimmy Saville from 30/40 years ago ffs (‘what do you expect from the bbc?’, ‘defund the bbc’ etc etc).

edit. Sorry, rant over ;-)
agree with every word

Are we considered a great team yet? I remember vividly when after smashing the league in 17/18 with a record points tally that all and sundry (led by that criminal cheerleader Neville) declared we had to win it again to be considered a great team.

The next year we went toe to toe with the dippers, who by all accounts were a great team and clawed back a deficit by winning our last 14 games to beat them to the title by a point on the last day. An historic treble (domestic quadruple) took place a week later and the first question asked after this monumental feat was actually an accusation that Pep had taken bungs.
Still no declaration of greatness as dippers won the chumps league and everyone in the media declared that they also deserved a trophy for almost winning the league as well as they are so great.

The next season the media got their wish. The introduction of var, the continued use of Ventolin and a below par year filled with injuries, loss of form and questionable var decisions against us put paid to our title challenge quite early in the competition. Cue the celebrations in an empty stadium, the documentary’s a plenty and an all round smug feeling at Sky, BT, BBC etc as they were once again declared a great team and the Rags had turned another corner.

The next year as a wave of pundits predicted our demise under the waking of the two red giants they seemed justified as we started badly and the titanic struggle looked on. But as the Rags flagged and the dippers lost VVD and the short term benefits of Ventolin it seemed, we came from nowhere to blow them all away. Still it was all about how the dippers had suffered with injury and how the Rags just needed one or two signings to make the title theirs. The fact that the only game we didn’t compete in was the FA cup final was irrelevant to them. Next year would be different.

On to this year. Renewed optimism was abound as the Rags had snatched Ronaldo from City’s grasp, the dippers were back to full strength and Chelsea who had already stopped City (who had also failed to sign Sir Harry of Nasalshire) in the Champions League could go one better and beat them to the title. All seemed in place once again and the media were beside themselves predicting another titanic battle, but this time Chelsea had joined the two red giants in a fight for the ages. But as they all faltered once again City emerged as the clear favourites and sailed into a ten point lead.

The media’s heart sank yet again. Fury and bitterness ensued. This team wasn’t great. This team was unfair. This team were cheats. This team got all the decisions. Something must be done.

Fucking arseholes the lot of em.
I like this post a lot, so true what you said about the pundits stating that we would have to win it multiple times to be considered great. I think only Graham Souness and Jamie Rednapp said that we were great already.

I say brilliant game!! The first half was genuinely a fantastic game of football. Why not congratulate 2 teams for putting on such a show?
And, in fairness to the media people involved (except McManaman), City's 2-2 at Anfield was (almost) equally hailed as an amazing game between 2 great teams and a great advert for the Premier League.

The Premier League wins and we win with games like these

It was a brilliant game and their game at Tottenham was as well. They are superb up front but wide-open at the back. This is why they only got 2 points from the games.
