Any newspaper which didn't use the following headline needs to have a word with themselves

"City's treble hopes get Real"

Instead we get "Istan Promise". Also why isn't a British broadcaster paying Kate Abdo whatever she wants to be on British TV. She is fantastic despite being a united fan

I’m sure if we’re found guilty of 3rd party payments to Mancini 15 years ago or to pressure the odd academy player to sign for us will certainly remove all the shine of a treble..

Adjusted for inflation (current GBP PP), United spent £29 million to bring in Yorke in 1998, £59 million on Verón in 2001, £38 million for Ferdinand in 2002, £14.5 million for Forlán in 2002, £24 million for Ronaldo in 2003 (which, to be fair, ended up being decent business), £13.5 million for Heinze in 2004, £24 million for Saha in 2004, £15 million for Vidic in 2005, £30 million for Van Nistelrooy in 2006, £30 million on Nani and £44 million on Anderson in 2007, and £55 million on Tevez in 2008.

FFS, they paid £12 million in today’s money to bring in Bebe — £2 million less than we spent on World Cup winner Alvarez!

They’ve been “distorting the transfer market” for decades before ADUG bought City.

That’s obviously not looking at Liverpool, Chelsea, or Arsenal. And that was when—as you said—really only those four clubs could spend big. Now all PL clubs have huge budgets in comparison due to broadcasting and sponsorship money.

We’re actually dominating at a time when we have relatively speaking, less proportional financial power to the rest of the league.

Even so, “spending big” only became a problem when one of the non-cash cow clubs started doing it to catch up to the establishment.

But is that general inflation or football inflation? Football has increased way faster because of the rocketing TV deals.
 
What are they going to do if we do pull off the treble? What can the arguments be, what will the new measurement for the rags being better than us?

I really hope we do it to snatch that away from the bastards and the parasites are forced to write how we not only did “the treble” but we fucked the scum to do it, and all they’ll be left with is howling cheats and asterisks and all manner of comforting delusions to shield them from the fact that city are the de facto best team in the land and all the world.

That is general inflation, because you can readily calculate purchasing power change.

However, I touch on football being distorted well before we began spending big.

And, even ignoring the even more overheated market conditions, these deals were eye-watering then and some are still so even in the current market.

As I said, we are actually dominating in relatively equitable conditions compared to pre-2012.
