Proper journalism might have considered comparisons with other industries where this sort of twofold payment is common.

Even in personal finance, if you buy through a broker (eg. a price comparison website) it's normal for the broker to be paid by both parties.

And if you look at our biggest transfer deal recently, we got Haaland for about £100m less than his full transfer value purely based on the way his agent structured his last contract. Therefore it's reasonable to expect City to make a direct payment to the agent in return for this.

Unfortunately, the words BBC and Proper Journalism don't go together. As long as they can run a negative story with constant references to City and a nice Sky Blue cover photo, they've ticked all their boxes.
Thing is it's not even a City story. Whether it is illegal or not, all the top clubs are doing it yet they always point it at us. Yawnworthy doesnt capture it

match of the day commentary intro;

‘Manchester city have won just 4 of the last 16 games with Liverpool’

They could also have said (but didnt);

‘Liverpool have won just 2 of the last 8 premier league games with Man city’

‘Liverpool have not won at the Etihad for 8 years’

Shearer with the lazy ‘City have the bigger squad’ comment
Richards going along with it as well. Just ridiculous how they can't be arsed being professional and asking themselves if what they say is correct. No one corrects them as its the narrative they are happy to go along with.

All they need to say is that they think City's squad is "stronger", not "bigger".

We literally have the smallest squad of first team players used in the league. Screenshot_20230401_225924_Chrome.jpg
