That’s not entirely true mate. They outspent everyone be before they floated ;)
Can’t remember if it was 1988 or 1989 where they spent £7.5m on players when their turnover was £9.5m
79% of turnover, so the equivalent of us spending £506m this summer
Theirs however, was all done with money earned organically thro (lack of) success & it definitely wasn’t a gamble using any sort of borrowings to help them become the behemoth the became in the 90s
They 100% did not do very similar to us by investing a shit load of money which hadn’t directly come from the club just prior to their period of success
(Just like Liverpool didn’t do similar whilst in division 2 in the 60s, or Blackburn with Jack Walker, or Arsenal in the 30s)
Pretty sure all the above is true, but the way the media is, doesn’t really matter if it’s true or not, just need to keep on repeating it :)
