According to Souness on Talk Shite earlier, Haaland will have to average 43 goals a season for the next 16 years to match Ronaldo's 700. Of course a quick look at the calculator does indeed show 700 ÷ 16 is 43.

He's be mad not to have a release clause. Look at what happened to Harry Kane last summer, and presumably BErnado this summer. It's nothing to worry about. If we wants to stay he'll stay, and we are very good at making players want to stay.

Here's a better stat.

Cristiano Ronaldo had scored 56 career goals when he was Erling Haaland's age today.

Haaland has scored 196.

I'm sure he does love it here, but I doubt he'll sign a new deal to get rid of the release clause. He put it in for a reason.

Not to get rid of the release clause, certainly.

To extend its duration, and pay him more for that luxury, would certainly be the intention.

I guess so, it’s the slight pause after he says “not true, there is no release clause” “for Real Madrid or any other club”. As you say though it could also suggest there is one but not to anyone specific
