Did you not read the article,
Seeing as you asked, I did; in terms of the atmosphere he said:

i. it is invariably a soulless experience at the Etihad [emphasis added]
ii. the atmosphere for the recent Derby was stilted and subdued
iii. some (implying a minority) diehards remain [emphasis added]
iv. The Kippax was (invariably) raucous and heaving

Is it all four?

Barcodes support is a myth the older blues on ere will remember crowds of 8000 when we were both in the old division 2
So true.

I well remember it. Also Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
When each of these clubs were at their respective lowest ebbs their total average attendances combined were less than the 30,000 City got most weeks in the third tier.
14k for Newcastle, 8-10k for Sunderland, and 6-8k for boro.

The greatest myth in English football is that the north east is a hotbed. It isn’t, never was, and never will be.
No more loyal or passionate than east anglia or the south west.

It's impossible to know there to start with that article. The writer is so incompetent he has not even made a cursory fact check on Google. He has obviously never visited Maine Road or the Etihad and doesn't even have the most basic knowledge of Manchester City. He has just hoovered up all the cliches and packed them into one fabricated feature. Many years ago the Northern Echo was a respected regional newspaper nowadays it has become a laughing stock.
Which is why there is no point in replying to the no mark. Anyone that does just gives him ammunition for his follow up piece. He will use it to spread more ill informed shite. A sensible journalist would look to highlight the shite we have had thrown at us and compare it to what is now happening, and will definitely happen it they finish in the top four.
Did I actually type sensible journalist, I'm going for a lie down.

Exactly this. Some matches it rocked. Some it didn't. I used have a guy sat in front of me in the main stand who used to read the Daily Telegraph during the game. I honestly kid you not. Lets see how many Geordies are turning up and paying for early Carabo cup games when they are paying to watch three games a week, week in in and week out for years on end and are deep in every competition possible for the duration of the season? If they ever even manage to get near that degree of success that is. I'm going to say it: Maine Road was a fucking dump. It really was. When you think back about the toilets, the catering etc etc and I say that as a bloke who spent all of his formative years standing on the Kippax. I was sad when we left but happy as hell about our new stadium. A dramatic and significant upgrade and improvement. Also lets not forget: no new stadium no Sheik...
The main stand was to be avoided at all costs when I was a kid. My mates dad used to get complimentary tickets off someone at the ground in there and I had the mispleasure a couple of times in the 80’s, it really was like the place people went to die to a young teenager.

Had the 'writer', the 'journalist' concerned signed off this dreadful article with the by-line 'Wayne Kerr', then maybe I could've understood its complete stupidity.. The man's clearly a plank..
