Should not have been surprised by last night's presentation. The coverage of the cup Derby was a disgrace. Our win was treated like a national tragedy, ragettes interviewed by grief stricken pundits asking where it had gone wrong. About two minutes devoted to our comfortable win, wouldn't mind but United only launched a women's team a few years ago when they realised their was money in it.

I think England have got a problem against decent opposition in that we haven't got a reliable goalscorer - I think Ellen White is either out of form (all year with City) or has lost it altogether. Russo for me is not a goalscorer (isn't mobile enough or quick enough) and Beth England is also not reliable enough. If our wonder girls (Hemp - Toon (shhh ex-city although its never mentioned) - Meade) don't get on the scoresheet we seem to have a problem. Clearly the sub-par teams have decided to defend deep, double up and continually rough up and foul Hemp to keep her out of the game as much as possible. 1st challenge last night defender deliberately stamped on her. I really hope referees become attuned to this, we don't want the most skillful players in the tournament kicked out of it by a load of cloggers. On any random counter attacks they get the ball wide and fall over for a free kick or try and get a corner then all stand on the goalkeeper and launch the ball into the six yard box in the hope of a keeper fumble or second phase pinball goal then defend like fuck and hope to hang on until the end.
Certainly England weren't anywhere near on it last night. Kirby should be nowhere near the starting 11 with the lack of football and conditioning she currently has in my opinion. The starting front 3 were right, Hemp-White-Meade although i'm not sure Meade came out for the second half, just disappeared in the game which is a shame as I reckon shes our best finisher. All looked a bit nervous and tentative on the ball apart from Keira, who I thought was brilliant and Millie Bright. They keep blowing smoke up Leha Williamsons arse but she's been poor for me and makes some big ricks in games, I dont think shes any kind of leader either. This captaincy should be Millie Brights - I can only think she doesn't want it.
Last nights form scores for me:-
Earps - had fuck all to do except 2 saves my nan would have thrown her cap on, decent distribution though - 6
Bronze - Good marauding forward, tries to do too much sometimes, defensively sound - 6
Bright - Excellent defensive display, peppered in the air - never missed a header - 8
Williamson - OK generally but panicked in possession a couple of times and got away with it - 5
Daly - Won her one on ones and assisted forward when she could, not her best game though - 6
Walsh - Calmness personified in possession sprayed some lovely accurate attacking diagonals - 8
Stanway - Played well in fits and starts, some of her usual driving runs forward, shell expect better of herself - 6
Meade - Good first half, great take for the goal, has to keep it going though - 7
Kirby -Some nice touches, the assist and link up with Hemp, looks short of stamina and conditioning for her standard- 6
Hemp - Double teamed all night and kicked about a bit, did well but not her best night - 7
White - Did some hard yards closing down the short passes from the keeper, woefully out of sorts in front of goal - 6
Sub - Kelly - Few nice touches, I prefer her on the right tbh, couldn't get enough rhythm to affect the game - 6
Sub - Russo - Missed a golden chance when seemed easier to score, did OK but she'll want more - 6
Sub - Toon - Should have started in front of Kirby, England looked much more mobile when she came on - 7

Overall - 7/10 - Can do much better. Austria wanted to be party poopers and half succeeded. Interesting to see how they play against Norway or just us they gave a lot of respect to. I doubt we can win the tournament playing at that standard but I expect us to get better and think we'll settle down a bit now the opener is out of the way. A lot of pressure was on the girls last night and I think it showed. Time to relax a bit now and let our football do the talking.
