"Crass PR drive to cover up sportswashing by City's owners!"Not seen this covered anywhere in the mainstream media, wonder why? https://www.prolificnorth.co.uk/news/manchester-news/2022/11/manchester-city-launches-christmas-community-campaign-online-and-person?f24_pid=882728af-e699-41cb-9bfb-3d376255f451&utm_campaign=Copy Of Newsletter Template 3&utm_source=force24&utm_medium=email&utm_content=textlink

Might as well be easter.#ChristmasWashing
So what term is used when you purposely promote and highlight a certain incident that happened decades ago to cover the shame of another incident 4 years earlier?News feed this morning flagged up the annual Collins' Dictionary 'New Word(s) of the Year' (and btw, how's everyone dealing with the economic 'Permacrisis'? getting by at least, I hope..)
Included among the list of new words was our old chum 'Sportswashing'. Collins now defines this as:
'Sportswashing: The sponsorship or promotion of sporting events in order to enhance a tarnished reputation or to distract attention from a controversial activity.'
So, I was wondering, given this definition, what the media moralisers of recent years and the supporters of other teams threatened by us will make of that?
I mean, since long before Sheikh Mansour was even born, such as the motor racing and horse racing industries have been taking the Middle Eastern riyals by the sackload to promote their events; while if Mansour's intention when buying City was solely to deflect our gaze away from the problems in the Middle Eastern nations in general and his own home state in particular, then he's hardly made a good job of it, in fact I'd say he's made a right 'Town Halls' of it given the press coverage over the years..
Mind, I don't think the poor loves in the media will give it much consideration given the amount of work they've got on creating articles on why everyone's being beastly mean to Liverpool and hailing Marcus Rashford's return as England's World Cup saviour..
'Permacrisis' word of the year? 'Permab*ll*cks' more like..
Oooh, that's stirring up a couple of dormant memory cells. Not forgetting a centre half named Savage. He had a bad run of own goals and the crowd at the opposition corners used to shout "mark Savage". Typical Blue humour.
That's him. Wiki has him down for thirty games, most of which would have been post 56 final when Bert was nursing a stiff neck! But in the previous two seasons I think he only figured two or three times.Looks like we had a goalie in the 50's called John Savage, can't see any CB though.
Yes Savage was the goalie, some bad centre halfs back then remember Gratrix,Wood,Batty.Oooh, that's stirring up a couple of dormant memory cells.
Funny how no one has an issue with Saudi telecom being a huge sponsor for the Rags since 2008:I see there is an anti Saudi NUFC Twitter site proposing a protest at their next game. He says he speaks for the silent majority - yet a quick scan of his followers reveal its an assortment or WhatsApp group journos and fans of LFC Utd and Sunderland

Selective telecom washing
That'll dry up now the Saudis have Newcastle, poor rags :)Funny how no one has an issue with Saudi telecom being a huge sponsor for the Rags since 2008:
And in 2017 Rags stated this:
Their deal with state owned Saudi Telecom is the ‘longest running of all our commercial partners’ this Manchester United official statement says below in 2017. That comment made as Man Utd launched another revenue stream from the Saudi regime, ‘the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia’ in partnership with Manchester United.
