What somebody saying hello to my 13 yr boy who commented that was nice, what's the problem
What's the problem? Some Stoke or Leeds-supporting knuckle-dragger should be chasing him around the ground. That was good enough for me at that age!

What a pathetic post
It was tongue-in-cheek, like Cheddar404's. Lighten up mate.

Seriously, I don't want to go back to those days and it's obviously far better that your son can watch matches safely. Danny Hoekman and TGR answered this correctly. The point is that there's no harm in it per se but it's a small part of the removal of the elements that make going to a match the experience we're all used to. Go to the game, shout, swear and sing & get emotionally involved in an atmosphere born from passion, not some candy-floss, manufactured "match day experience" (and there's an app for that).

I'm old school to mate, but things are changing we need to generate new support, if somebody saying hello makes my son being welcome so be it. I suspect the younger generation like it, it's what they are brought up on. Technology and apps are what they are in to.

If you don't like it just walk by go into the ground and do what you do.

In regards to what PB and others have said; yes it does no harm, but what does it actually achieve? Maybe it does attract a new generation, but it didn't work like that in the past, did it? We should attract the next generation not because we have a smiley person greeting you as you enter the ground, but because they enjoy the football, the experience and have an emotional attachment.
I'm only 15, and I don't remember getting hooked on football because of the half time games, or the flashing lights and American experience; it was because I loved the singing, the off you seat edge (and this was when we where rubbish, so I must've been a really bored kid ;) ) the stereotypical away day per se. To be totally honest if City are trying to attract the new generation, well they've done a really bad job already. How many teenagers do you realistically see going to games all the time, hardly any. Within my group of mates, most being city fans, there's only me and another who regularly go to home and away games.
That in itself is a problem regarding the atmosphere. As many have mentioned we have an ageing support. I've found myself becoming alienated with City and I'm only young, if this is the way football is going...

Interesting divergence of opinion on this. My first impression was, and remains, that it is highly civilised of the club to post friendly faces around the ground to welcome fans both our own newcomers and away fans. It's the very unnecessaryness (?) of doing this that makes it something special, a detail that may well impress those of us who weren't brought up on skipping around the dog turds in the pink passage.

Brilliant! You've come up with the answer.

How about the owners recreating the streets around Maine Road on Joe Mercer Way. Stick up some replica terraced houses, cobble some alleyways, spread some dog-shit and employ kids on the North Car Park to "mind yer car". Stick up some floodlights as well. We could have the football equivalent of the Granada Studios Tour.

You see this is the sort of input the club misses since it did away with its fan consultation. Miserable buggers take a trip down dog turd lane, happy clappers go the other way.
