Meeting Re: Atmosphere

You can take it one step further. Sound collects in a totally different way in big new stadia like coms and wembley. It doesn't bounce off the roof of the area it is being sung, unless it is being sung by people at the top ofvthe stand.it drifts to the centre of the arena .

I don't even think it does that at Coms. I think the angle of the roof in the south stand and north stand mean it just goes straight up into the air. Hamburg has a flat roof all the way around and when we played them the sound just rattled round the stadium, whereas at COMS any noise just goes straight up into the air

Hopefully these pics can help illustrate my point. Hamburg:

Obviously I'm no expert on the matter and I stand to be corrected on this, but it's just a thought of mine

Only solution to this would be for everyone to be holding an umbrella. Maybe City will be giving out thousands of blue and white ones for the Villareal game?!

Whilst its not the same as a Hamburg type stadium we know we can get coms rocking, you only have to look at the Hamburg home game for evidence, that was a special night.

Not really arsed how it changes just dont move the away fans to 3rd tier. The atmosphere is in the south/ corner of the east stad because of the away fans and the banter.

It was shocking that Wigan game when we had operation one end or whatever one of the quietest games I've been too.

I regularly turn to my mate before big games and say "turn the fucking music off!" and it happened again against Napoli. That stupid Hey Jude and that cringeworthy Blue Moon.

But that only applies to big games. Turning the music off before a Wigan game will achieve nothing.

There wouldn't be as much as a problem if the scum were above us. When City fans have had that area, they have put the black covering over the first 2 rows and had stewards at the front! Could still work!

I agree. That's the point really. Decisions need to be taken on the night when it's clear how the atmosphere is building (or not).

Looking at the Champs League... assuming City's season goes the way we all hope, there will be no need whatsoever to play any music to boost atmosphere within ten mins of the kick off of the Munich game on 7/12, but assuming Villareal bring a very small number of fans, there may be a need to do something for that game on 18/10. However, it's possible that we will all see that game as an absolute must win and with the Utd away game coming up it's possible the atmosphere will be powerful before kick off. We will only know for certain on the night, so any assumptions made now about noise levels and so on should take into consideration the different scenarios.

If on the night the chants are building 5-10 mins before kick off DON'T PUT ON HEY JUDE (which is a great chant at appropriate times - usually when we're in a very comfortable position - but not one to build atmosphere pre-match). Don't put anything on (apart from the stuff we have to put on because of CL rules - the CL anthem presumably as the handshake happens).

The atmosphere has never been better - not since standing anyway

I don't mind watching the City Square acts on the video screen.

The club could experiment with turning off the tannoy before Kick Off, but it would only work if there were a decent number of away fans in the ground.

It's not the case that the club's "cheese" is drowning out an army of fans. I know that for a fact because I sit in the back rows of the South Stand and the only fans who offer any significant support are in the back rows of 216. The same supporters who created the atmosphere in the North Stand at Maine Rd.

It only takes a small pocket of fans to get some chants and noise going, but people only join in when it's either funny, or the team are winning

But it's always been that way, and if anything with the Poznans and Kun Kun Kun Aguero, Edin Dzeko chants it's better than for many years

a free pint to every seasoncard holder before the game would get people in the ground earlier and improve the atmosphere

We'd still be waiting to get served for our pints by the time the game had finished!

Totally against cheese in all forms normally but how about a couple of lads with loud-hailers?

Works a treat for some of our European neighbours and lets be honest, they create an amazing atmosphere when they get thousands at it, coupled with a bounce or two.

I would also allow blue smoke in as well.

Fans and teams need to become wary of coming to us at home as they know the atmosphere will be full on for 90 mins.

Spot on. Also the south stand would be alot louder if the upper tier sang with like the away fans do

we do.
You really REALLY don't!

Level 1 gets outsung a lot of the time. Level 2 is outsung 100% of the time!

rubbish.
we sing just as loud and proud as anyone, i agree 216 seems quieter, as do the lower tier at times. its the shape of the stadium i reckon.

when we are in one end it will help.
