Meeting Re: Atmosphere

My reservation with regards to moving the away fans up to the 3rd tier would be in relation to the "banter" element of the atmosphere. There's a degree of interaction between the singing sections either side of the away fans and the away fans themselves which adds something for me. To remove the away fans and put them on the 3rd tier you'll miss out on that.

Also, and it may have been covered already but I didn't spot it, how will the police deal with the logisitics of getting the away fans up to the 3rd tier and also segregating them?

I don't think the club understand the psychological value of having the away fans out of sight of the cameras.

There's nothing worse than seeing away fans celebrate on TV when their team score at the South Stand end.

Second, there are often gaps in the away section and people watching on TV often don't realise it's the away section. So having the more fanatical home fans fill the screen gives a better impression I believe.

Finally, it has to be better for the players to be attacking a "home" end.

It doesnt do the atmosphere at the Anfield kop any harm not having fans close by to point at so why should it affect our atmosphere?

Why do we need away fans close to us to produce an atmoshpere?

It just shows that for years/decades the players on the pitch have give us fuck all to sing about so weve concentrated on banter with away fans,im just hope us the fans and the club give it proper time to work.

It never affected the singing on the kippax,we had the fans in the pen to the left,in the platt lane and even right side of the north stand at different times in our history

You have obviously never been to Anfield then?

This is what i thought. People who want to stand and sing can move there? Otherwise it will just be a fail as usual because you will get familys sitting there etc. The club need to make it obvious that it is a ''singing section''

Surely the club should just move the 3 sections for this game to see what it is like rather than waiting on the 3 blocks to move themselves.

Its a good idea but not going to work im afraid.
Not everybody in that section will want to move and certainly shouldn't be forced to.
I agree, I sit in block 109 and I'm quite happy with my view, and the atmosphere where I am, I've no wish to relocate. Plus, from a League game perspective, block 109 is the East Stand rather than South Stand and, as such, the price of a season ticket is higher. To forceably relocate people into a "cheaper" seat would cause issues, I'm sure some would complain and demand refunds.

There are a few who seem to have this romanticised view of what the atmosphere at Maine Road was like.

It was very average at the best of times. There is no coincidence that the best of it disappeared when standing was outlawed.

You only have to see it now, those who do actually sing, aren't sat down.

It's like flat caps, everyone used to wear one to go to the match, then they didn't.

Times change, society changes. People grow up.

Fact is, the atmosphere at ANY GAME in the current, is when it has something on it, when a rivalry exists.

It can also be suggested as a reason for why players get up for certain games, rather than others.

Take fear, anticipation and hatred out of any mix, you are left with pre-pubescent teenage lads who think more about what other fans may think of them.

Done it myself, spent more time engaging opposition fans than watching the game when I stood on The Kippax as an early teenager.

I sang some horrific songs with no concept of nothing but getting the rise.. 'Spurs are on their way to Belsen', 'Ice on the Wings', 'Eight Men died, so they played five-a-side', hissing gas, the lot.

There is no way, and quite rightly, anybody could get away with it now.

I think those who want to get the atmosphere going is to their credit, but it's a losing battle, you can't manufacture passion, ultimately hollow.

They want something they never had, and can never experience or ever hope to recreate, a time when football was only ever the realm of the working class, who lived only for the Saturday.

Not really as this will only be for cup games only this season, so nobody could claim to be being forced into a cheaper seat. If it was implemented in the league it would be next year and you would obviously then get a cheaper ST.

Looking at this image, if this was to go ahead next season would there be any problem in putting the away fans in blocks, 109,110,209,210,308,309?

This way we still have the away fans nearby for "banter" and they would just have to use 1 spiral.

I'm sure I read somewhere (no idea where it was though) that there were plans to do this at a Premier League game later in the season too. Anyway, even if you ignore the price issue, you'll still have people who are very happy in their current seat. I personally don't want to watch the game from behind the goal, I enjoy the view of the game I get from side-on.

-- Wed Sep 21, 2011 1:34 pm --

Where would those who sit in the aforementioned blocks go? Not all will want to take up the option of being in the singing section. Will they be uprooted against their wishes and relocated to another area of the ground, one with potentially a worse atmosphere than their current seat, or a worse view? The club have to balance the desire of some for a singing section with the desire of others not to have their match day experience affected detrimentally by this.
