Melbourne City FC Thread

The only good thing about tonight was that we didn't lose, but by geese that was painful.

Not excited about Tuesday backing up at home against the Wanderers.

That's what happens when hen you have 9 defenders as the starting 11 and 2 central midfielders as the attacking options on the bench sadly and not a recognised striker to be seen.

Negative manager only bothered about not losing games Id sack him now

What's happening with the Fornaroli (sp) guy?

With him & the guy Harrison? Who just disappeared mid season last year they had a pair of very good forwards for the league they are in.

Well that's the 1.4 million dollar question (reportedly Fornaroli's salary). As far as we know he is not committed and hasn't met some criteria to be picked to play. This was stated in a few pressers by Joyce. The rumours are rife but at the end of the day we have our Marquee sitting in the stands while a 19 year old rookie or a high quality right back fill in. Both have scored but it's clear neither of them are strikers and neither of them will ever be proper #9s.

Where does that leave us. We have a couple weeks to find a replacement striker as Michael O'halloran has left by mutual consent and that frees up a Visa spot and his wage inside the cap. As far as Fornoroli goes that's more difficult we need to find a club willing to take on his wages for the rest of the season as he is contracted to June and it appears he is not willing to leave Australia. City are not willing for him to walk to a competitor for free (no transfers allowed between A League clubs) So he is pretty much going to stick it out playing hard ball.

It's really hard to know what to think as both sides seem to have valid reasons but what is clear is that because we have no genuine forward we have now become ultra defensive and playing not to lose with the hope of pinching a goal as a main game plan.

Now that is a legitimate strategy and in some circumstances it can develop genuine support when competing against much higher quality opposition that are superior in every area on and in particular off the field but we play in a salary capped league. We basically have exactly the same wage bill as the other 9 teams so the levels of difference between all the teams is generally marginal.

To not play all your Visa/Marquee players is fundamentally flawed. O'halloran has walked and returned to Scotland as he hasn't been able to start and Fornoroli has been left out for no real clear reason so we are playing with only Schenkelfeld Berenguer and De Laet as our 5 visa/Marquee. We have a coach that is determined to prove a point and as a result created a turgid boring style that only the rusted on will turn up to watch and we have a new Melbourne team entering next season that ultimately will do everything opposite to what we are doing and most likely over take us in a short time.

We all had high hopes and inflated expectations when our club was taken over by CFG but after 5 seasons we find ourselves in perpetual limbo of mediocrity and to top it all of playing boring ugly soccer.

Harrison wasn't Melbourne City, he was New York City, we signed him, then loaned him to Boro, which was a bad move on our part considering who manages them, and is currently on loan at Leeds. He started in their defeat at Stoke.
